Toshinori stares at the boy who spoke, looking into the widest, youngest eyes he thinks he has ever seen on a swordsman. They are quite literally evergreen, a green as new as spring grass.
But they are dull, too. Matte as a dark metal sword that glints only when the light hits its sharpened edges at a certain angle.
A twisted, knotted feeling stirs in Toshinori’s stomach. He swallows hard. “What is your name?”
The boy denies him, shaking his head. “I have been trained to be your sword,” he says.

Soap barked a weak laugh. “Honourable death, that. Put me down like a hound, see if I don’t come back to haunt you.”
But Ghost didn’t move.
“I can’t let you die,” he said finally. “You have something of mine.”
Soap arched a brow. “Aye? And what’s that, then?”
“My heart.”

Intrigued despite himself, Sam can only nod, reaching for the envelope. His eyes scan the simple schematic, trying to make sense of scribbled notes on the margins. The artifact is rather simple in its design—a flared base that widens into a narrow neck, meant to anchor it in place, topped with a rounded, bulbous body that tapers just slightly at the end.
