    After the events of "Tears of the Kingdom", the land of Hyrule has known perfect peace for many years. Now a daughter has turned seventeen, and she has a wish for herself in the peaceful times that Link and Zelda fought for. After the greatest battles have been won, can a dreamer find a way to shine for everyone?

    7/26/2024 update: A fourth chapter is added as an Afterword with lots of thoughts about what I put into it and how I imagine the Link x Zelda pairing here. If even a few get something out of it, it was worth it.

    It's days like this in the garden when Link often thinks about the family that left this home and never returned. Not until he did 100 years too late, that is. Hateno is a good place for a home. It's a good place for a family, and Link can't believe how lucky he is to have that again.

    Zelda is blooming, and because of that, Link is too. If she's representative of the Silent Princess, then maybe there's a reason blue nightshade is never too far away.

    He stared at the corpses as if seeing death for the first time, spellbound by the red tendrils that rose from them like steam. His legs shook; his stomach roiled with sickness; it took him three tries to slide the Master Sword into its scabbard. Zelda drew closer, her brow creased with worry, a faint aura of light still shimmering around her as she reached for his shoulder.

    The Gloom recoiled from her touch, and Link flinched back, clutching his arm, digging his nails in again to feel something, anything else. She snatched her hand away as though burned, staring at him through the darkness.

    “Link?” she repeated, her voice shrinking down to something small and scared. “Can you answer me?”

    But Link is too busy staring at Zelda out of the corner of his eye to pay attention to whatever is happening on screen. He's too distracted by the fact that he can clearly see bags under her eyes and that she’s holding her face in such a way that he can clearly tell that she's trying not to fall apart and cry.

No idea what kind of hex this is but– wait, why are you laughing?” All Aryll did was laugh harder. “Aryll, what the hell, stop laughing! This is serious!”

    “Sorry,” she said, wiping tears from her eyes and not sounding very sorry at all. “Yeah, sounds like she’s properly enchanted you.”

    (Link meets apothecary owner Zelda and is convinced she must have put a spell on him. Time to investigate!)
