“What the fuck is going on?” he heard Lance mutter, but he pointedly ignored him and began…singing.
“Ok, ok. I see what’s happening here. You’re face to face with greatness and it’s strange.”
Adam sputtered in disbelief. “Excuse me??”
Shiro kept going, adding a smirk on his face. “You don’t even know how you feel. It’s adorable!”
He turned around to the other inhabitants of the room and winked at them. “Well it’s nice to see that Paladins never change.”
Keith pinched the bridge of his nose. “I knew we shouldn’t have shown him Moana.”
Allura brightened for the first time in a while. “Oh, oh! Is that the Earthling movie about the seafaring princess? I love that one!”
*Or: Adam ignores Shiro after the Paladins come back to Earth. The Paladins intervene, after which Shiro begins singing and Shiro, Adam, or anyone else (including me) have no idea what's going on. But everyone agrees Shiro's version of You're Welcome is pretty funny (until it's not).

“Now!” Shiro demanded. He was losing his head, it hurt too much. One accidental look at Keith’s vest, at the small blade he must have forgotten to hide, and the lines between reality and the past few years became blurred.

Seven years ago, Lance went missing. The Garrison informs them of this a week after his disappearance. Under the guise of military confidentiality, they're given hardly any details about the event. All they know is that Lance had snuck out one night, got into a fight with some personnel dealing with some top secret mission, and then promptly vanished.
Just like that, seven years pass. Lance turns eighteen, then nineteen, then twenty, and then they stop counting. At twenty four, he comes home.
Or: Seven years after leaving Earth, Lance comes home, but there's a part of him still left in space.
