Matthew Holt’s intention had never been to be placed within the hard confines of a mental ward. His intention had been to, well, die.

He has memories of none of them.
Matt has had demons living inside the confines of his mind for as long as he can remember conscious thoughts. A particularly bad spell has him on a bathroom floor with a stomach that needed pumping and gashes that needed stitching.
Both incidents lead to Altea in August, right as the leaves start their slow change over and a new season begins with the promise of healing. But sometimes healing isn’t a straight-lined process. Sometimes you need a hand to guide you, or maybe just one to clutch onto. To know you’re not alone.

a couple days later, nick goes downstairs to get advil, he couldn’t sleep because of his pounding headache, but as he was heading towards the medicine cabinet in the kitchen, he finds matt already there, holding multiple full bottles of pills, pouring them out onto the counter and counting them out.
nick’s heart drops as he sees the sight, he stays silent for a moment, his heart pounding in his chest, matt hasn’t seem to have noticed him standing there yet.
just as matt is about to pop them in his mouth and end it all, nick speaks up.
“What the fuck are you doing?” nick speaks up, his tone is quiet.
matt flinches, his head jerking over to where nick is standing, he immediately shoves the pills back in the bottle, shoving it into the medicine cabinet and closing it up.
