He knows the conversation would vanish into thin air if deflected, and so he pushes. The soft glimmer of the moon outside reminds him of the night walk then, yet the soft fabric of their sheets roots him down to the present day. As if calming a frightened animal, Childe reaches out and takes both of Zhongli's hands in his.
Zhongli’s eyes meet as he opens his mouth, "Is there anything I can do?" The 'to slow it down' is left unsaid.
That yellow gaze turns to their joined hands and Childe knows Zhongli has heard the unsaid words. “There is nothing to do.”
Zhongli was a god and Childe was the worshipper that would grant him anything, yet Zhongli always prayed to him like he was the god instead.
