Summary
Vash the Stampede, while he hadn't shown it, had always been someone who needed physical affection. Any passing touch from a stranger on his journey would spark his body with an electric buzz, shaking him for the rest of the day. It's like his body didn't know what to do with itself when he was touched, but he still liked it. Still craved it.
He would watch as families held hands down the streets, or couples how would hug each other tightly in reunion. And he would yearn.

The fight is over. Life carries on. Meryl and Milly are finally married, Knives is learning what is means to be human, and Vash is hoping to enjoy his new life now that he doesn't have to spend it forever looking down the barrel of a gun. The world is on the mend, and Vash the Stampede can finally hang up his coat and be at peace. At least, that had been the plan.
There is something watching him. Something shapeless and wanting and lurking just out of the corner of his eye. Something he refuses to name. It has entwined itself with him inextricably and refuses to let him rest. Not yet.
There is one last foe that Vash has yet to face, and wherever he runs, it follows.

It brings to the fact that he was desperately fisting the rope of toma’s bridle while leading an animal near himself instead of riding it. Actually first three iles he did ride toma on pure adrenaline, too desperate to flee his captivity and get away from hell on earth, or it’s better to say on No Man’s Land. But it didn’t last long as the searing pain that pierced him to the core was too much to handle. When Vash prolonged his journey on foot the pain didn’t go away or become more bearable. He felt wetness between his thighs which was definitely blood and.. other fluids probably… The low of his stomach violently frobbed and hurt all the way down. Vash desperately wanted to get away as fast as possible and reach the first town he could, but riding toma was out of question with the state he was in. So he walked and walked and walked throughout the day and night.
Is there a situation that can make Vash the Stampede contemplate his beliefs and understand his brother a tiny bit better? He's not so sure. When you can't make sense of your own feelings and emotions, when there's no place you can feel safe in, what's is the last tower of hope you have left in this world? Who would you turn to? Was the enemy an enemy all along? -

Loneliness was a creature with claws. It tore at him when he was still. It hollowed out his chest and filled him with ache.
He thought about the little boy again — the brief second of a smile, the wide-eyed curiosity. That flicker was enough to keep him moving forward. It had to be. But he knew, deep down, that the mother’s sharp tug and whispered warning was the truth of it. He was not someone a child could reach for without fear.
Not someone who could ever be welcomed as human.
The fire collapsed into ash. Vash closed his eyes, listening to the silence. The desert had no answers for him. It never did.

The woman leans around to look at Wolfwood, wrinkling her nose. She eyes his clothing, appraising for the worth of a worn down cotton mess held together by prayers and Wolfwood’s shoddy mending skills. Then her eyes skip up to the Punisher still strapped to Vash’s back. Then back to Wolfwood.
“Church man?”
Vash nods stiffly.
“He wear jewelry?”
A rosary.
“No,” Vash says.
She shrugs. “Less you cough up something, I can’t help you.”
Vash stares at her then nods and nods and keeps nodding as he pulls his revolver out from under his coat. He sets it on the counter without looking down at it.
“Will this work?”

“Oh, Mister Vash is awake!” Milly says, her voice lilting and excited as Vash finally blinks the sleep from his eyes. “We should ask him!”
“Ask me what?” Vash asks around a jaw-cracking yawn.
“Milly,” and that's Meryl, from the driver's seat, Vash catches a glimpse of her in the rearview and tries to make sense of the expression he sees on her face. It's? Worried? He can't figure out what she's worried about, “Vash just woke up, maybe we should talk about something else?”
Why would they talk about something else? Vash's brain feels like it's playing catch up, but Milly doesn't seem to be concerned. “Aw, Meryl, but we want to know!” there's a minute where he and Meryl's eyes meet across the rearview mirror and the look in her eye is all the warning he gets. “Mister Vash, when's your birthday?”

The can of used up cigarettes on Roberto’s side of the dashboard is nearly filled to the brim, the sticks of rolled up tobacco smushed together, fighting for space. A flask of alcohol sits open and empty next to it. He could use a late night smoke. Or a drink.
He turns his head to the left, scratching thoughtlessly at the back of his head.
He blinks. Vash isn’t there.
He’s expecting to see the blonde, slumped over in the now unoccupied tattered leather space beside him, sleeping and snoring the night away. But nope, he isn’t there.

Vash is pinned down.
He should never have let it get this far, he'd let his guard down too much, snuck away from Wolfwood so he wouldn't have to contend with that look he gives him when Vash drinks too much.
He shouldn't have drunk so much.
He could get away, could flip the man pinning him down into the dirty, broken glass-riddled alleyway, but the gun nudging against his temple gives him pause. He's not sure he's faster than this man's trigger finger, the man's breath coming hot and nauseating against the back of his neck.
He could get away though. Probably. If he could just make his limbs move. It's happened before, his mind and his body unsynced to the point where his limbs feel heavy and sluggish. He thinks maybe the man drugged his drink or maybe that's just wishful thinking, his own brain concocting a world where he isn't to blame for this.
