Or: The one in which Sherlock doesn’t know how to people and John doesn’t know how to Sherlock, but for some reason Mycroft, who doesn’t fully understand either one, makes all the connections.
Also there is sex.

Someone has been killed on the grounds of Brakebills University, which is not entirely uncommon occurrence. So why would Dean Fogg summon the World's Only Consulting Detective to crack the case? Not everything is as it seems in the Magical world - but could this be more mundane than expected? How will Sherlock be able to function in a world that does not follow his rules?
And side plot...love story? Hey, with all that adrenaline pumping, smut is bound to happen.

Eliot was raised on a small farm in the state of Indiana. This was a secret he had shared with very few people. By the time he had begun his second year at Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, Eliot had worked very hard to become the persona he put forth for the world to see. As Eliot put it, “Becoming me was the greatest creative project of my life.” The suave, sophisticated god of hedonism that everyone knew and wished they could be was Eliot’s most elaborate charm, and he wore it well. His favorite past-times were mixing drinks at one of his elaborate parties, and tormenting the newest first-year that lived in the Physical Kids’ Cottage with him. His name was Quentin, but he never called him that.

It was a thing.He didn’t know how much of a thing it was until he’d wandered through the community garden in Manhattan, stumbling out of the cold, leafless bushes and into the bright, warm summer day at Brakebills. He’d felt a thrill when Eliot stepped up to him, cigarette in hand, standing just a little too close and looking him up and down like he was deciding whether not to approve of Quentin’s existence. Eliot’s cool disinterest and his frank assessment of Quentin that very first day… well, that was also a thing. He’d gotten a bit more mentally adventurous in the years since he’d had his secret crush on Colin, and that night, Quentin had an elaborate fantasy involving Eliot deciding whether or not he got to stay at Brakebills by putting him through an increasingly complex series of sexual trials, culminating in Eliot fucking him against the brick wall where he’d been lying out like a bored supermodel the first time Quentin had seen him.
