“You’re gonna behave,” he repeats, voice edged like a finely honed blade, and Buck nods minutely, panicked; all his zoo facts scattered like fractured glass as Jeffrey crowds his space, blocking out the light above them. Buck is painfully aware of him reaching behind him with the other hand, his mind already reaching for the darkest terrors of what it could be—gun, knife, garrotte, duct tape, taser—tilting his head up and away, ignoring his exposed throat, biting down on a whimper—
“And you’re gonna keep your mouth shut or I’ll gag you again, and this time I won’t worry if you can breathe or not.”
Buck nods quickly, short-sharp motions, lips trembling, tears streaming. His panic hasn’t allowed him to ignore it for long and it sweeps back in again, smothering thought and choking sound, although Jeffrey wants him quiet and Buck doesn’t understand, but he doesn’t want to die here, he doesn’t want to bleed out, he’ll be good, he’ll be good, he’ll be good—
Or: Buck refuses to let Jeffrey Hudson use him to hurt Athena.
