There are things that always happen, no matter how hard he tries: El doesn’t arrive in time. Eddie dies. Max is put in a coma.

Tommy, incredibly slowly, reaches up to wipe the water from his eyes. Ranboo gasps out, “I take it back. This is exactly what I brought you to the beach for.” He holds his hand out towards Tubbo, who happily high-fives it. “Nice work, Tubbo.”
Tubbo bows exaggeratedly. “Thank you, thank you, I try.” Tommy takes a deep breath in, and lets it out slowly.
“Tubbo,” he says slowly. Tubbo looks at him.
“Yes, Tommy?”
