Summary
The introductory chapters and some further plot notes for an original romantasy story I have been pondering, about a group of humans that joins an all-new society of anthro animals because in this universe, every civilization lives on the back of a space whale, and the humans' whale is dying, so they have to seek refuge on top of another one. Where all the furries are. I am blending in as many concepts I find fun as possible, guided only by a vision of a hypothetical BookTube reviewer, looking at the cover of the complete story (if it will ever exist) with confusion and disgust, and asking "What was the author smoking?" and "Who is this even for?". The answer is: the author was smoking sleep deprivation, and the story is for the author, i.e. me. And maybe you. Especially if we are friends.

Summary
Rogue Trader Constantia von Valancius returns from Commorragh with a dramatic grey streak in her hair and, more crucially, with partial memory loss: the price she had to pay to Tervantias in exchange for her companions' freedom. She is mostly functional, and her retinue is happy to assist with regaining her memories through various means, which she is quite successful at... But when she looks at Abelard, her trusted Seneschal and her lover, all she sees is a stranger. Worse than a stranger, even — certainly so for Abelard himself, who suffers in quiet stoicism as the woman he is so passionately devoted to fails, time and again, to recognize him. Until he cannot take it any longer and, losing his usual common sense under the influence of amasec at a "Rejoice, we are not traitors!" Werserian family celebration, lets all of his pent-up feelings spill out.
