It slows down and passes, but it did happen. There’s no ignoring it.
Especially not when the young boy you’ve grown to view as your son, who was right beside you a moment ago is no longer there. The only sign he was ever there is the pocket watch you gifted him on the ground by your loafer shoe.

“...Mydeimos,” he says in an unexpectedly deep voice. “I’ll be in your care.”
“You’re a guy?” The thought escapes Phainon’s mouth before he realizes how creepy it sounds, and he grimaces.
Mydeimos crosses his arms, feline eyes narrowing. “Is that a problem?”
“No! Not at all,” Phainon denies. “It’s just that all of Okhema’s Ushimusume are female, so…I was surprised!” The Ushimusume judges him silently, sharp golden eyes tearing Phainon’s confidence to shreds with a glance. He can feel his short-lived trainer career going up in smoke.
“There is no word for ‘gender-locked’ in the Kremnoan language,” Mydeimos declares. “In Kremnos, nobody looks twice at a male Ushimusume.”

Phainon (+ his variants, maybe) and Mydei get tossed into different worlds, different setups, different kinds of relationships. Whether it’s fluffy romance, spicy banter, painful heartbreak, or a bit of mischief, the fun is seeing how many flavours their dynamic can take.
TL;DR: I'm trying to push myself to write something (hopefully) every day.
