Summary
Izuku Midoriya used to want to be a hero. It seems a distant dream, now, after everything that he's done—after everything that he's been made to do. But it's still there. It's a dim, flickering flame, burning lower by the day.
He doesn't have time to concern himself with that though, these days he's too focused on staying alive to think too much about what he can never have.
Then All Might takes a job teaching at UA, and the universe says hey you know what would be fun? What if we fucked Izuku over even more than we already have? and thus, Izuku ends up in the General Education class of UA with strict instructions to report everything he can, because, thank fucking no one, he just can't catch a goddamn break.
AKA Hisashi Midoriya is a member of one of the most notorious underground supervillain organizations, and Izuku is being forced to help them (even though, trust him, he'd really rather not). Too bad that they don't predict that Izuku's going to get adopted by half the faculty when they send him to spy on the prestigious hero academy.

This must be Buddy.
Bronze clears his throat as he ventures forth into the room.
The reaction is immediate. The figure spins around like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar before dinner—eyes wide, fork frozen mid-air.
Bronze feels his face drop. It’s strange feeling skin and muscles contort instead of the usual stillness of metal—but the sensation barely registers. There’s something else, something far heavier beneath his bones, dragging through his chest like a boulder sinking in water.
He knows that face.
And he watches in slow motion as “Buddy” appears to be experiencing a similar emotion.

It just makes him seem so much more… human. So much more Chase. Chase Hollow, apparently, according to the nametag stuck on his backpack next to all of the star stickers.
And seeing Chase as a regular, kind-hearted, goofy, completely normal teenage boy—that was not supposed to happen. Nox is supposed to see Chase as the enemy—as the annoying human obstacle in the way of his plans.
What he’s not supposed to do is feel giddy when the annoying human obstacle unknowingly invades his secret base.

With nothing to pass the time, they trade idle conversation before stumbling upon an old screenshot Chase has saved on his phone... a screenshot of the famed "36 Questions Experiment", a list of three dozen questions designed to be asked back and forth, that allegedly indebt the two askers into falling in love.
Buddy claims it would never work.

Summary
Typically, Chase and Buddy butt heads more often than not, but lately, they've had more good days than bad, threats have devolved into banter and playful jabs, and concern for Buddy's living conditions have taken up more and more space within Chase's thoughts. Now set on the decision to rescue Buddy from Ex Libris, Chase must figure out a way to convince Buddy that he can and deserves to be saved, but the chasm of distance between them is wider than he originally anticipated. Eventual happy end, but, geez, the Don Bluth-esque obstacles we gotta go through.
Rated for Teen And Up Audiences for select cursing and later descriptions of a spooky environment.
Time Pocket AU: Cinderella Boy but everything is the same except I've tweaked the definition of how time moves when in and out of stories.
Implied/Referenced Child Abuse: There are no acts of child abuse being explicitly described in this fic. Any child abuse is alluded to or done off-screen. Summary
Deacon really wants to go into his current favourite book. It's a great story, with terrific characters, an awesome medieval-ish setting, an evil dragon and lots of action. It would be the perfect story, except for one thing. The Heroine and Villainess are barely mentioned in it. So while Deacon gets to immerse himself in the story's main arc, Chase and Buddy will have plenty of time to bicker, argue, fight, get on each other's nerves and generally irritate each other to their hearts' content. Or at least they could have done all that, if Buddy wasn't falling over with exhaustion. Sometimes, the smallest change in a story can lead to unexpected plot developments… or a lot of cuddles.
