Summary
He could see building a future for himself like this; quiet dawns watching the dogs from the porch, alone. No need to pretend, to shy away from raised voices and Bible verses. A house of his own, God will it. The sun peered through the distant cypresses, casting strange soft shadows across the bayou, and Will felt the anticipatory prickle of sweat bead across his face.
He would move somewhere with snow.

Summary
Abigail looks at them both, and something in her stomach flutters — not quite fear, not quite want. Something nameless. She feels like an echo between them, a satellite orbiting two bodies with their own gravitational pulls. She can feel the way they move around each other, drawn closer not despite the danger, but because of it. They’re like a myth she’s only just beginning to understand.
