    Sherlock doesn’t bother trying to hide the grin that unfurls across his face. “Brilliant!” he exclaims with a clap of his hands.

    Mycroft stares at him.

    Sherlock rolls his eyes. “I mean, oh dear, what a tragedy, he shall be dearly missed,” he rattles off the expected condolences. “But also, brilliant!” When Mycroft’s stare doesn’t grow any less cold, Sherlock hurries to explain. “You want me to get married? Fine.” His grin widens. “I’ll get married to whoever can solve Milverton’s murder.”

    Mycroft squints at him for a moment, then another, then another, before pinching the bridge of his nose again and sighing.
