A lot of the contestants weren't talking to each other, most of them went their separate ways now that a competition wasn't forcing them to interact.
This didn't affect Fan, not much at least, but now he felt deprived of interaction. Everybody acted so peacefully with each other, it was kind of... boring.

Paper scoffed, but a smile tugged at his lips. "You do realize I'll just end up a soggy mess?"
OJ's grin widened. "Too late." He declared, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Before Paper could react, OJ grabbed his hand and pulled him up from the couch.
Paper let out a small yelp of protest, but OJ's grip was firm. "OJ! What are you doing-?" He exclaimed as he stumbled off the couch, still grasping his precious Warrior Cats novel.

Riley had deliberately avoided any communication with her father ever since the arrest, discarding all unread letters and brief phone calls that ended with her promptly ending the connection. The sheer magnitude of his heinous acts—the murder of twelve innocent individuals, coupled with attempts on her idol and her own mother—left her utterly incapable of maintaining even the most basic dialogue with him.
This visit was not for his sake, but for her own sake. Closure, she believed, was the only justification for her presence behind the cold, unyielding glass.
