Something shadowed and heavy flickers for a moment in Solas' eyes. ‘Most especially me.’Solas is a famous detective with a troubled history dating back to the wars that destroyed his homeland. When he embarks on a cruise along the Enavuris River to pursue a lead in his most recent case, he encounters a passionate love triangle which comes to a fatal end.
Complicating the tragedy is the fact that the victim Justinia, heiress to the Chantry fortune, was murdered with Solas’ own gun. And then there’s the problem of his extremely inconvenient attraction to his prime suspect, Jacqueline Lavellan.
As the cruise continues through the wilderness, rapidly approaching the Veil that separates the south of Thedas from the mysterious north, Solas races to uncover the truth before the killer can strike again.

Summary
The explosion at the Conclave damages the Veil irrevocably, and breaks open Elgar'nan's prison. Solas is still weak from his slumber, but if he does not find a solution quickly, great evil will be released upon the world. Working in secret within the Inquisition, he searches for a way to seal away the Blight and defeat Elgar'nan before time runs out.
Of course he cannot afford to be distracted by the elven woman who has become known as the Herald of Andraste - this would be the worst possible time for him to fall in love.
This is an Inquisition-era AU where the explosion at the Conclave goes even worse and Solas is forced to do a lot more plotting and scheming. Featuring secrets revealed earlier than in canon; some adventures in ancient Arlathan; plus an excursion to the Black City.

The rain has rendered the trees and low flower bushes in diamond-studded outlines; they are beautiful, but not so beautiful that Solas can be tempted outside. He is old enough now that he takes very little pleasure in dragging his hems through muddy grass - some things, he thinks, are better experienced from a position of relative comfort, as art might be.
