“I’m gross, dude,” Steve grimaces, tugging his collar open to duck his nose under and sniff. “I sweated through my shirt like, two songs in. It was 200 degrees in there.”
“My darling, that isn’t the deterrent you’re describing it as.” Eddie gets his belt apart and his fly open, then shoves his jeans down over his hips. “I gotta go back soon and I’m not gonna do it ‘til you got some of me in you.”
“You should have said that to the girl who showed you her boobs,” Steve suggests, blithe in his delivery. Eddie laughs and reaches up, yanks Steve down by the sweaty collar until he’s bent over at the waist and they’re kissing. He pulls back an inch to add, “Maybe next time you can find someone to show you their balls.”
It’s stupid but Eddie genuinely laughs, nose snorting against Steve’s cheek.
Steve always gets all gooey and sweet when they kiss, and Eddie fucking loves it. Steve rests his thumb against the divot of Eddie’s chin like a cute little button who isn’t about to take dick in the back of a metalhead’s van.

When the gang approach Steve with ideas for a summer road trip, and Eddie wants to go to some big heavy metal festival in California, Steve ends up renting a Winnebago and mentally preparing for two and a half weeks of absolute torture.
Maybe two weeks of abstinence is the perfect opportunity Steve and Eddie need to actually talk about whatever is going on between them.
Maybe having to share a confined space with 6 teenagers and Eddie for two weeks will give Steve enough time to sort out his frazzled brain and ask Eddie out on a date or something...

Summary
Steve’s still figuring Eddie out, including the ways Eddie will wheedle and give him shit for an offhand remark or tone of voice. It’s not like Tommy, where there was always something darker looming behind his cocked brow or narrowed eyes. The wrong kind of look meant tipping the scales towards an inevitable violence.
With Eddie the wrong look will get cigarette smoke blown in Steve’s face, the wrong words will get teased, playfully flipped back in a way that makes it feel like Eddie’s gently humbling him. Like each time Steve’s face goes warm with embarrassment it’s another strike to the long-dead King Steve. It’s mostly harmless. It’s intriguing. It’s the type of game Steve wants to understand so he can play it back.

Summary
A year after Eddie Munson dies in the Upside Down, Steve Harrington finds him alive in front of the trailer he used to call home.
But Eddie is different than before. He has ears that peek, bat-like, above his hair and eyes that burn gold in the night, and the memories of his old life, his name, the relationship he and Steve once held, are gone.
Steve is left to pick up the pieces, to help Eddie adjust to his new normal, all while hoping that someday life can be as it once was.

“Eddie,” he pleads, “Eddie, baby—”
But Eddie’s eyes are already rolling back, his consciousness slipping as Steve holds him.
“Robin!” He doesn’t recognize his own voice, high and cracking and desperate. “Robin, help me!” He cradles Eddie’s face in his hand and supports him with the other, blood staining his shirt.
Steve doesn’t care. He doesn’t care about anything because Eddie is here. He’s alive. He’s different and bloodied but even as Robin approaches, even as she tells him this looks really bad, Steve, Steve breathes his first full breath since 1986.
