Chapter 1: Not Alive, but Not Dead
Chapter Text
Omori won. He watched as Sunny fell to his knees, and faded away.
It was time.
Sunny-
…
Omori opened his eyes. He walked out of his room. He saw his friends. The real ones. They were walking towards Basil’s room.
‘Good, they’re preoccupied.’ Omori thought.
He walked up the stairs, onto to the roof.
It’s windy.
Whatever remained of Sunny, was desperately trying to gain back control. It wasn’t working.
Omori looked down.
…
It’s a long way down…
Do you want to jump?
>Yes
No
…
What was expected happened. Omori fell all the way down. He smiled maniacally.
“Oyasumi, friends. Mari, I’ll be there soon.”
*SLAM*
…
Aubrey, Hero, and Kel walked outside. They saw a grizzly sight. Sunny, what remained of him, was splattered on the ground.
“What… nonono, this isn’t happening.” Kel spoke. Hero covered his eyes. They were both crying.
Aubrey, however, stood unmoving, staring at the corpse. Aubrey was despondent.
……
“Where am I?” Sunny opened his eyes. He’s back in control. Is he in bed? He felt around.
He is.
But, it’s not a hospital bed. And there’s no way he survived that fall. This was HIS room. But there was another bed.
That’s Mari’s bed. Why is that here? He killed her… Sunny looked around, and then stood up.
He then realized that he was slightly shorter than before. Sunny noticed that he wasn’t as scrawny as before.
Was he… twelve again?
…
He walked out of his room. He saw a light from the under bathroom door.
‘This seems so similar… like a memory. The door is about to open, isn’t it?’
Then it opened.
“So tired… oh? Sunny? Why are you awake?”
…
Mari…?
‘No. No this isn’t real. I’m dead. She’s dead.
I killed her. It was an accident. What’s happening? Something is wrong here. Something is very wrong.’ Sunny shut down. He ran down the stairs, to the kitchen.
“Sunny?! Where are you going?!” Mari followed him.
Sunny walked up, grabbed a knife from the rack, and turned it towards himself.
With a heavy heart, he pushed the knife into his chest.
…
He opened his eyes.
Chapter 2: Back Track
Chapter Text
…
He opened his eyes.
Sunny was back.
‘What.’ Sunny thought. He was back again.
This is… interesting.
Can he always go back? Does he have limited use of this power?
Sunny doesn’t know.
But what he does know is that this is a second chance. An ability like this… can save Mari.
Right? Sunny stays in bed. He falls asleep.
Things go by. Sunny remembers a lot about these two weeks. The memories with his friends, the practicing of the recital. All like an old record being played for the first time in years.
Despite Sunny’s memories telling him what’s going to happen, and what he shouldn’t do, he still had a fit. He still threw the violin down the stairs.
Mari ran out of their room.
“What was that?!”
She ran up to Sunny. His quiet, but clearly troubled and angered breaths ravaged Mari’s ears. She looked down the stairs. The violin, lay broken on the ground.
“SUNNY! WHY DID YOU DO THAT!?” Mari screamed. “WE SPENT SO LONG SAVING UP FOR THAT!”
Sunny silently watched as Mari began walking down the stairs. Unlike last time, she wasn’t cutting in front of Sunny who then accidentally pushed her down.
But this time, Sunny cut her off, trying to warn her of what could happen.
Sunny did not expect to be the one being pushed down the stairs.
…
It was almost cathartic to Sunny. What happened to Mari, is happening to him. He felt his bones break, as he hit step after step.
After what seemed like hours, Sunny hit the violin at the bottom.
…
“M-mari??” Basil walked in. “Su-sunny?”
“Basil! Call an ambulance!” Mari ran down. “Oh my god, I don’t care about the violin anymore. Sunny! Please! Please be okay! Wake up! Please…
…little brother…
…please…”
…
Sunny opened his eyes.
He wept. He remembered the cries of his sister as he slowly left that mortal plane. Did he leave those universes? Did they keep moving forward after he died?
…
He doesn’t want to think about that.
Chapter 3: Realization
Chapter Text
That day came again. The day of the recital. Down went the violin.
Sunny was slightly more prepared this time. He fought with her near the walls, rather than the stairs. Neither could fall now.
“What was that?!”
Just like last time.
“SUNNY! WHY DID YOU DO THAT!?” Same words. “WE SPENT SO MUCH TIME SAVING UP FOR THAT!”
This was interesting. With no stairs to fall down, Sunny stared at Mari. as she berated him with angry words. Words she probably didn’t mean, but words he felt he deserved.
Basil opened the door. He walked up the stairs. “What’s happening? W-why is the violin broken?”
“Sunny broke it on purpose!” Mari shouted. Her breathing ragged from all the shouting she’d been doing.
“What? Sunny! Why?! We spent so much time on that!” Basil said. Basil felt betrayed, and began running down the stairs. Sunny tried to grab him, to explain himself.
Then the unexpected happened. He accidentally pushed Basil.
…
Sunny realized something.
He and Mari are not the only ones who die here.
He and Mari were never the only ones who die here.
…
He watched as Basil fell down the Suzuki weapon of choice.
Sunny still felt bad. He still felt the guilt of killing somebody. Especially his best friend.
“Basil!” His voice ragged. He barely spoke. He faintly remembered shouting Mari’s name when he pushed her too.
He watched as Basil hit the bottom. Sunny decided to keep moving. He was sad, yet interested. What was everyone else’s reaction to this? How did they react to the death of Basil, rather than Mari?
“Sunny… what… what did you…” Mari was frozen. “Sunny, call an ambulance.” She realized that ironic statement. “I’ll call the ambulance, just make sure he’s okay.”
She saw Sunny’s tears.
“I’m sorry little brother, this is my fault, it’s going to be okay.” She ran down the stairs, hopped over Basil, and ran to the phone in the kitchen.
Sunny didn’t know what to do. He walked down, and checked Basil’s pulse. Hero taught him that.
Nothing. Not a hint of life, except the rapidly declining heat of Basil’s skin.
Sunny’s newfound morbid curiosity caused him discomfort. He felt guilty to be interested in his best friend’s death.
Sunny didn’t like this. He pulled a piece of the broken violin, and plunged it into his chest. He felt his life draining away. He could explore this scenario later, he thought.
“SUNNY!” Mari ran in. “NO PLEASE! NOT BOTH OF-“
…
He opened his eyes.
Chapter 4: Hiatus for a bit
Chapter Text
Hello!
This story is going to be on a hiatus for a bit.
This is mostly because of the fact that this type of story is kind of hard to write. Especially for an amateur writer.
Sorry, hopefully it won’t take too long to figure out how exactly I’m going to write this.
