[Comic] In Your Shadow

Summary:

Xander gets cursed with a demon that will kill him unless he acknowledges his repressed feelings. The only problem is that he doesn't even have any repressed feelings. Seriously. Why is everyone looking at him like that?

(A comic about bi!Xander and how guys would rather die by shadow demon than go to therapy.)

Notes:

This was going to be a short comic that ballooned into something way too long. I was going to clean it up beyond the lettering, but it's just a bunch of talking heads and I can't bring myself to ink and color it. Enjoy some thumbs!

(Designed to be read on desktop. Apologies ahead of time to any mobile users.)

Chapter 2

Summary:

Xander and Willow attempt to exorcise the demon by un-repressing Xander's mind.

Chapter 3

Notes:

"Men be like, 'I'm fighting demons,' and the demons be bisexuality."
— Ancient proverb

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Notes:

There's a cut joke here where Buffy comes in like, "Please, if THAT'S gay, then you should see what Faith and I have done!" and everyone stares at her. Unfortunately I couldn't really make it work and didn't want to dedicate a whole extra page to it.

Chapter 4

Summary:

Giles discovers a magic ritual to get rid of the demon.

Chapter Text

Chapter 5

Summary:

Tara guides Xander through the magic ritual to explore his subconscious.

Notes:

Added some grayscale for visual clarity. These last parts should be neater because I realized I wasn't getting past the thumbnail stage.

Chapter 6

Summary:

Xander spends the last ten minutes of his life on a pedal boat in the middle of a lake, trying to minimize the collateral damage when he explodes.

Notes:

The talking demon fish is a metaphor. For what? Idk.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Exit, pursued by fish.

Thanks for reading. I've been haunted by this since the Boom comics planted the bi Xander seeds in my head. I've been trying to articulate the cardinal Buffyverse rule that is Xander Harris Cannot Win, and the only way he wins is by losing. Meanwhile Spike is, well, Spike.
