prologue.
Evan Buckley was 15 when he started dating and discovered that he doesn’t have to get hurt to gain anyone’s love and attention. When he was 15, he was Evan—the football star, the boy who doesn’t look like it but is a straight A student, teacher’s pet, and the best boyfriend for the head cheerleader a grade above him because why would he settle for less?
His parents did not care. They never did as long as they kept up with the appearance that they were good and loving parents in front of the important people in town. His sister, Maddie, said she was proud of him over text one time and called it a day. She never answered his call since then.
At 15, he was a golden boy with a whole, bright future ahead of him. At 15, he could not wait to be 18 and get the promised full scholarship at UCLA to leave his life in Hershey.
Evan Buckley was 15 when his girlfriend, Thalia, told him she missed her period and he told her back that she was insane but shakily bought her over a dozen pregnancy test kits from a town four bus stops away from theirs.
Evan Buckley was 15 when over a dozen sticks told him that he was going to be a father and his world stopped spinning to a full stop.
He was 16 when his world started spinning again and revolved solely on his little dark-haired miracle—Belinda Thalia Buckley.
