Summary
Mirabel did get a gift, but it didn't come with a door and that, combined with the fact she could turn into one of those evil dragons from the fairy tales, was enough for her to grow up believing her gift was a curse and a bad omen.
She had to keep it secret or else she was absolutely certain she would be kicked out of Casita and Encanto.

It’s finally Antonio's Gift Ceremony today. Ever since the last ceremony, everyone is on edge about his door and gift. But as he opened the door to his new room, not only could he speak with animals but all his animal friends came in to congratulate him! This includes a strange young lady who he had known since he was a baby. As she walks towards him, he can hear the panicked and worried whispers from the people around him.
But then the children excitedly speak as well.
“It’s her!”
“Look at her mask!”
“She’s the one who saved me and took me home!”Now Antonio, with the help from his animal friends and his feral companion, is going to help and save his family and the miracle!

Mirabel Madrigal has had hanahaki disease since she was 10 years old and no one noticed. She's entering the final stages of the disease now as Antonio's ceremony approaches, and now she has to save the miracle on top of it.
Starts briefly pre-canon and planned to go post canon.
