Summary
The following is a transcription of a lecture by R. H. Pumpernickel, professor of Adunaic Studies at Manwe and Varda College, Narowthrode University, in an Intro to Numenor class.
Pumpernickel is the author of *Pelargir in the Second Age,* and *The Flowering of Adunie.* He is currently working on a translation of the Numenorean liturgies for the Three Times.
(This is an attempt at an EmperorNorton150-style in-universe historiography of Middle-Earth through the lens of Numenorean History. I had a lot of fun with this, though I was too lazy to bother much with diacritical marks or standard punctuation.)

There were two young Finwëan men named after stars living with Círdan at the end of the First Age. One of them, Eӓrendil, abruptly disappeared, his fate known only in legends. Around the same time, the other, Gil-galad, abruptly *appeared*, his origins shrouded in myth.
But like they say of Superman comics… there’s no way Clark Kent could be Superman. We all know where Superman lives—what would he be doing running around in disguise? That’s ridiculous, right?
Right?
*Look. It wasn’t like Eӓrendil had planned to disobey (another!) edict of the Valar, fake his death, lie about his identity, cheat fate, meet his apparently-not-dead sons, and become the king of the remaining Exiles. It all just… snowballed.* -

"You raised him well," Celebrimbor says off-hand, and Ereinion chokes almost violently on his wine.
"I do not hold that I did any such thing," Ereinion splutters when he can, glaring at Celebrimbor, who feels the reaction is rather uncalled for. "That is not - that credit lies elsewhere."
"Taught him well, then," Celebrimbor drawls, rolling his eyes. "Whatever you wish to call it. Don't try to be modest, it doesn't suit you."
Ereinion grabs the neck of the bottle between them and drains the remainder of it without bothering to pour. He really is in a strange mood tonight.
