"Contrary to popular belief, I know exactly what I'm doing." Tony said, barely sparing Rhodey a glance after taking a swig of some dark liquid that didn't look like scotch or soda. Rhodey knew that was his cue to leave, Tony's version of a polite dismissal, but his feet were rooted to the floor. He couldn't take his eyes off the dark lines climbing up Tony's neck, lines they both knew weren't road rash. Road rash didn't look like it was trying to poison the brain. It didn't create the paleness of his skin, the sweat from his brow, and the tiredness of his eyes. It didn't cause him to collapse, too weak to hold himself up.

In a universe where Rhodey didn't let the road rash excuse go, events pan out very differently.

Takes place in a post-Avengers world where the Avengers have lived together in the Tower for a few months now.
When a spontaneous team night is interrupted by an Avengers-fight, Tony is left gravely injured. Steve and the team have to hurry to get him the help he needs and take care of him in the aftermath.
Honestly, that's just it lol. This fic is shameless Tony whump and shameless domestic Avengers/Avengers family vibes. I think we all still need some of that, even if it is 2025 already :)
Update: This fic got a life of its own. Will now also feature: Tony having trust issues, the team solving said issues through (playful, of course) bullying, the team being a family, Tony having other issues, the team helping him through said issues and sleepovers.

Antonia is brilliant, she has been her whole life, but out of the shadow of warmongers Maria can finally see the starfire in her, the cosmic iron of her spine. Her daughter will never have the peace and obscurity her mother wants for her, and so she gives her music instead. Toni's memories of Howard, of America, of Starks and fame and fortune fade over the years. Peggy and Maria take care never to speak of him where she can hear, never to mention what once was. They know she'll need to take up that life again one day anyway.
Toni performs hitting the limits of her brilliance to her professors and peers, but she is lying. Her mind has found no borders it cannot transcend.
Steve Rogers is found frozen in the Arctic when Toni is 23 and finishing her master's degree. She follows the news dispassionately. Her father's shining face on television does not frighten her. It frightens Maria.
Four months later, Toni Stark wakes to a new life in a hospital bed somewhere in Germany.
