Bucky asked shakily, “But I didn’t...I didn’t try to...”
Sam shook his head, giving the ghost of a smile. “No. You were a perfect gentleman.”
Sam took a long drink from his coffee and then admitted, “But I wasn’t. I offered to help, just because you were in so much pain and I just wanted you to stop suffering, but you said that this wasn’t how you wanted us to get together.”
Bucky felt sick once more. “Sam, I was so out of it, I didn’t mean – “
Sam confessed, “But I did. I wanted you. I still...Bucky, I...”
Bucky put his untouched cup of coffee on the nightstand. He shifted closer to Sam, intoxicated by his rich, deep scent. Black cherries soaked overnight in bourbon with a hint of dark chocolate and beneath it all the heady taste of want and desire. It took every iota of willpower not to reach out, to not ride out the last waves of his rut with Sam in his bed. Sam with his heat still lingering in the air between them. They were close enough to their own baseline temperaments that any act between them would be self-determined and not animal instinct. But not close enough. Not when Sam was bonded to someone else, someone that Bucky loved enough to follow into hell itself. Or at least he had loved him – how could he even consider betraying someone he still loved?
Sam called to him softly, “Buck, say something.”
Bucky admitted, “If I start talking then I’m not going to be able to stop. I’m going to say things I can’t take back and one day you’re going to wish I never said them.”
Sam put down his own coffee and, to Bucky’s horror, crawled into bed with him. Bucky instinctively held him against his chest, letting Sam curl into his frame. Bucky’s heart pounded so hard in his chest that he thought Sam should move to avoid damaging his hearing.
Sam pressed his fingers against Bucky’s skin, just above his violently beating heart. Bucky’s half-hard cock stirred in response, rising to fill the narrow space between them. It’d be so easy, so damn easy, to enter him like this. A tear of fabric and he’d be inside of him. Bucky’s body was so taut that he knew he wouldn’t last long. A few thrusts and he’d be already knotting.
Sam’s breath quickened, hot against his skin. Bucky could smell the change in his scent, smell the blossoming arousal. Not quite a heat, but a sympathetic response to Bucky’s rut. Their bodies had long adjusted to the other but their chemical makeup was attuning, both their systems treating the other not as companion but as a potential mate.
That same treacherous part of his brain further coaxed him, stroking a primal desire that shamed him. Bucky could steal Sam from Steve. He could have him, now in this soft space after heat when Sam was still fertile. Who cared about a bite mark when Sam was carrying Bucky’s baby? They’d elope and sneak away to Sam’s hometown, reunite him with the family he had left behind to follow Steve. Bucky would take care of everything, ensure that Sam wanted for nothing for the rest of his life.
Bucky leaned forward, groaning into Sam’s throat. “We can’t.”
Sam whispered breathlessly, “I know.”
Sam pulled away, just enough for his brown eyes to meet his. At his soft expression, Bucky lost all willpower and brought him into a deep and hungry kiss. Sam moaned against his mouth, grasping at Bucky’s shoulders as he hitched his legs over Bucky’s thighs.
Bucky pleaded uselessly, “We can’t.”
Sam grinded himself against Bucky’s cock, his slick soaked through his pyjamas. “I know.”
Bucky’s cock throbbed painfully in response, his knot already starting to flare. “Sam...”
Sam kissed him harder, pushing him fully against the headboard. Bucky took his face in his hands, enthralled with the taste of him.
