As he scratched at his skin, a mumble came out of Keith’s mouth. “Could I stay over for tonight?”
“Of course! What’s up?” Lance, the boy who responded to the door, asked, offering a sweet delight of Swedish Fish to Keith.

A tired, groggy voice spoke from the other end, “...Hello?” The familiar voice asked.
Instant relief washed over Keith at hearing Lance’s voice, and he tried to make it sound like he wasn’t crying, “H-Hello? Lance...?” His voice was shaky and maybe a bit strained, his other hand still holding his leg.
He heard rustling and then Lance speak again, "Baby...? What happened...? Are you crying?” He sounded more awake and alarmed, concern clear in his voice.

Keith's chronic pain is acting up at 1am and he's out of ibuporfen and can't get up to buy more... so he decides to let himself be vulnerable and call his boyfriend to pick some up. Lance always has time for Keith, no matter what (or if it's 1am).

Still feeling absolutely confused and even more nervous about what was happening, he questioned what Keith was talking about. "Keith, baby, breathe... Who is Zoe and Waffle...?" He shuffled through all the pets that their friends owned, wondering if there was a freak dog mauling incident and he just forgot that one of their friend's had a dog ready to snap. However, he literally has never heard these animals' names in his life.
Sniffling and speaking in a broken, soft voice, Keith gave the most adorable, but still heartbreaking because he was sobbing, explanation. "The hippos in Zoochosis... Zoe got mutated and ki--killed Waffle, Lance..." He cried more into Lance's short sleeve button up, creating a larger dark spot on it.

Keith plays Zoochosis on his PC while tipsy then in his tipsy, sensitive state, cries over one of the hippo scenes, making Lance worry and comfort his boyfriend... over a video game scene.

Keith smelled blood.
Being a paladin of Voltron, Keith was used to seeing and smelling blood. He saw it when he slashed and fought against the Galra and he smelled it on himself when he would get a little too reckless and a dagger would graze his arm or leg.
But this...this was different.

Unfortunately, Keith's never been the best at self-care and a year's a long time. Team Voltron soon learns a lot, and not just Keith's medical problems.
