Summary
Most of the University of Piltover's student body has vacated, making a glittering ghost town out of the campus and its surrounding blocks. Many are summering with their parents in mountain chateaus or on foreign shores. The ones that remain are arranging day trips, devouring hungover brunches, or still in bed. Certainly, they're not spending their Sunday morning in the sterile, fluorescent-lit halls of the physics building. Still, their well of impending tasks runneth over, so Viktor claimed responsibility for a handful of grant proposals. He's making decent progress, if he does say so himself.
There's a wet hiccup from the floor.
The real reason that Viktor is in the lab on a Sunday. He rolls his desk chair back far enough to examine the source.
Viktor sighs indulgently. "Really, Jayce. I thought we agreed that you were going to be patient."
Viktor gets to indulge in a long-held fantasy involving his and Jayce's shared desk.

“It is, isn't it? Over,” Jayce mimics, turning the word over in his head until he finds he is pleased with it.

Summary
Jayce Talis was born with the heart of an elemental, or that is what his grandmother used to say. With his right hand he can transmute matter into anything, but the same hand cannot touch things lightly, well, that was before, some years ago he suffered an accident that affected his heart, he lost someone he loved deeply, and a valve was installed in his organ. Since then he can't feel a thing, much less transmute it. He blames the valve for turning him into this empty, mechanical being. On an unfortunate eventful day, he sees a pale man with wings tattooed on his back trying to jump from a bridge.
Viktor Aiken reached the end, lost all hope, all he sees in the mirror is a weak dying thing that the world failed to heal. Promises were made, empty words that just brought him more pain and despair. So it's time to leave, to open his broken wings and fall into oblivion. Then someone is trying to prevent him from jumping, and that's when he meets him, not the man holding his body painfully, no, he’s the man telling the stranger to let go of him, the man dressed in black, the death angel, with empty golden eyes, did he come to take his soul? Damn, he can't help but reach out for him, and something starts to take form.

Jayce doesn’t know when he first met the man. Rather, it must have been a slow accumulation of moments - spotting him in the corner of his eye, studying him before fully becoming cognizant of where his attention has wandered - until seeing him became a slow revelation of oh it’s you again, hello.
Jayce has never heard his voice, but he doesn’t need to hear him speak to know that the mystery man feels kind, gentle. Gentle in the way his shoulders seem to be swallowed by his woolen sweaters sometimes, such a charming sight. And yet, Jayce gets the feeling that if he were to hear his voice, he’d find a home in it.
In which Viktor is a pianist, and Jayce asks him for lessons. A friendship unfolds, told as a love letter to piano music, books, and kindness.

When Viktor comes back from his comatosed processes, he can feel there's something wrong right away. This body is not his, and the hexcore may have kept him alive, but it charges a high price, it makes him empty, a thing, a mechanical being. The only thing that keeps him going, and wanting to stay in this world, is the fact that every time Jayce touches him, he's filled again with life, with sensations, with many painful feelings. But pain may be better than feeling nothing. Or can it turn into more than pain?

Viktor knows now that the hexcore has made a connection with him that is unlike the relationship between it and the plants. His own biological matter was much more appealing. The hexcore has tasted blood, his blood, and somehow Viktor knows deep down that it wants. It’s capable of that now, of wanting.
There's a magnetic pull that grows with proximity- the closer Viktor dares to reach, the stronger it gets, and he doesn’t know how long he can keep from giving into it.
“Not me.” Viktor hisses at it, as if it could be sentient.
“Him.”
OR the canon-divergence fic where Viktor never lets the hexcore transform his leg, and the butterfly effect claims a new victim in the aftermath.

Jayce attends many galas and benefits for funding, and for connections to support and improve he and Viktor’s “baby”, Hextech. These events typically require a lot of mingling, and on occasion a lot of dancing! Jayce spends most of his time talking, sipping overly-bubbly light beverages that leave a tingle on the tongue, and a warmth in your cheeks, and… dancing.. far too much, even for his liking sometimes!
It just so happens that.. for this event in particular, Viktor offered to accompany him. It had been a while since his last, and he wanted to be there to support his partner! Secondarily, Heimerdinger insisted he take some time away from the lab, and away from the Hexcore, to be around people for a bit of a refresher in “being human” (it was said with love, and from a place of concern more than anything else). Regardless of rhyme or reason, Viktor would find himself in his least favorite environment – in a room full of drunken high-class socialites, schmoozing and hanging off of his probably equally drunk business partner, whom he.. has developed an alarming fondness for! Surely, nothing can go wrong here! -
