Jayce stares down at the letter in his hand and then looks back at the man walking down the hall. He forgets that some people prefer to be curt and minimize discussion, though it’s in Jayce’s innate nature to talk and ramble.
He grabs his letter opener by the door (the lab is basically his home office by now) and slides the envelope open before pulling out the handwritten sheet inside.
To whom it may concern,
This is a formal request on behalf of Laboratory 16 for deliverance of warning to Laboratory 15 with accordance to an official noise complaint. Lab. 16. has reported loud and/or disruptive activity from Lab. 15. outside of office hours and issues this as a proper complaint against the Academy rules. Another report will result in loss of laboratory privileges and/or denied access to all Academy School of Science resources.

In which: Viktor and Jayce have been anonymously and generously commissioned to invent the prototype of a new invention, the "Hexstrap". The day after they receive the inquiry, Jayce avoids work for the first time since Hextech was founded, then struggles to maintain a healthy distance with Viktor upon returning. Despite his efforts, Jayce gets a little too close to his partner for comfort on Christmas; then finds himself accidentally suggesting experimental sex for the sake of "ethical test practices."
Viktor—much to his surprise—is amicable to the proposal, with some unexpected suggestions on the best approach. This results in Jayce discovering something new about himself and his desires while in a compromising position.

This ludicrous device was never a part of the Hextech partner's expansive agendas originally, but the offer of a life-changing lump sum check combined with the very explicit condition of being granted permission to "use any excess funds as they so desire or need", proves itself to be far too tempting of an offer for the up-and-coming Hextech Industries to pass up. Though it seems unethical at first, not to mention undoubtedly hedonistic and lewd, who knows what other doors the profits related to this invention could open? And what kind of inventors could Jayce and Viktor claim themselves to be, if they didn't thoroughly and personally test their own product first-hand?
(AKA i needed an excuse to write T4T jayvik fucking and falling in love in an ever-so-slightly "lower stakes" setting bc i'm feral for them.)

Despite the pain in his leg slowly throbbing to a quieter pulse, his mind remained so ablaze he hardly noticed the change.
Neither had he noticed when someone had come rushing in through the open door, taking a kneel beside him. The voice was calling, calm, but frantic. Through barely open, burning eyes, he sees the knee buried in the pile of ashes he had "carefully" pushed together.
Without thought, without hearing the voice through the pulsing in his ears, he releases his leg and moves how he can to push the person off of the pile. Through gasps and heaves, he sees who it is. Viktor's pained eyes moved slowly upwards, before shooting back down to Sky's ashes and pulling them back into that neat pile.
He didn't have the patience to explain himself, nor the care that it was the now speechless Mel Medarda he had pushed backwards.
