After the dramatic and deadly events regarding the Eclipse cannon, Agent Stone and the eggcentric Dr Robotnik retreat to one of Robotnik's last remaining 'secret' Labs in the Midwest of the United States. There, they must conform to domesticity, as many things said go unaddressed, but Stone discovers there is much more the Doctor isn't telling him when he runs into a program by the name of "Sage". Confused as to what her purpose is, Stone attempts to befriend the program, and Sage begins to express confusion and uncertainty as to why the doctor made her. Stone must force this answer from the doctor, leading to things unsaid finally being revealed.
Will Robotnik's long-held desire to have a family finally come to fruition, or will it be shattered, just as his old Grandfathers had? Are the Robotniks truly destined to be alone?

It couldn’t have been more than a week since Shadow had returned to Earth. He wasn’t entirely sure how long it had been, but he definitely remembered crashing into the earth’s crust, he remembered stumbling through forests and waters and mountain ranges and sand dunes with the moon and the sun and the bright blue sky swapping their positions every time he looked upward. He remembered catching a whiff of that blue hedgehog’s scent coming from a cave. The scent was old, but it was the only familiar thing about his travels so far, so he dragged his tired body in and onto the floor. He knew that what he was doing, with blood staining his muzzle and his teeth aching from overuse, had always irritated the scientists and had been kept hidden from Maria. He knew on some level that it was wrong. But then, there was something inside that screamed at him to continue, to dig his fangs deeper and deeper.

He barely made it outside and out the door when he was pinned against the side of the alley. He should’ve known better than to run from the fastest thing alive.
Sonic had both hands pinned onto his shoulders, forcing Shadow’s quills to spill out like a halo and fur to be scruffed by the rough brick of the alley wall.
The other panted lightly, “Shadow, what the hell, man? What happened back there? Why were you running from me?”
A fist hit the blue bur’s face, sending him stumbling backwards into the alley.
“Leave. Me. Alone.”
Shadow turned to leave, hoping that would be enough of a warning. Instead, he felt Sonic grab his wrist, spinning him around and pressing him back against the wall, hands pinned this time.
“No. Not until you tell me what happened,” he leaned back to look Shadow over, “I know you, Shads. You would never let a slip-up like that happen.”
