Soulmates, a simple word to describe a bond that can change every aspect of your life. There are many different types of bonds from romantic polyamorous to platonic best friends, even some sibling and parental bonds exist. These bonds are unique to those included, regardless of the type of bond you have, it shows up at either age 25 when you’re old enough to truly respect the sanctity of the bond, or in a moment of great need.
Jack and Robby received their soul bonds at age 25 like they were supposed to, but they didn't actually meet until much later, after Jack lost a leg and then his wife and Robby was so closed off from his many failed relationships. They met each other on Jacks first day at PTMC and knew, but neither was ready to acknowledge it. Now some 10 years later they're happily married, working side by side as ER attendings. They never expected to suddenly have a new string attached to their hearts, a brilliant golden string leading to someone out there, the moment it appeared however they knew the needed to find whoever it was, new strings didn't just appear unless absolutely necessary, and this one felt like a bond between a parent and child, a child that needed them, even if they didn't know it yet.

Her coat is one of those puffer ones, all down and nylon, but her pants aren’t thick enough for standing outside for this long. “It’s not that expensive, I just keep forgetting and—”
“You do not need to get AAA,” he says, cranking at the jack. The metal is biting cold against his hand—he didn’t stop to get gloves before he ran out of the house, which was stupid but whatever—and the grit of the road shoulder is digging into his knees through his jeans—at least it’s dry; it hasn’t snowed in a while—but like hell is he going to let her spend her precious money on getting somebody else to come change her fucking tire. No matter what it does to his back. “You need to call me, which is what you did.”
“I didn’t want to,” she says, and he shouldn’t feel that like a kick to his ribs, but he does. “Becca insisted.” Thank you, Becca. He makes a mental note to buy her that Cricut she’s been eyeing.

Pain and exhaustion seeping through the tears that rolled down his face, swallowing the rest as he sobbed. Blue irises gazed on the altar, his hand clenched on a gold necklace, pulling hard at the golden cross of its end until it breaks off. The necklace glides off his hand to the floors, the cross clanking at the sound of it. His exhales slowed down as he stood up, looking down at the fallen cross.
