However, Violet quickly discovers that this reality contrasts deeply with the games she played during the False Reality imposed by the G-man. It's not solely the Combine and the Internal Peace Corperation she has to confront; they've allied with a faction once thought to be extinct.

There were some things Barney never knew too well about Gordon. Sure, he saw a few baby pictures, or heard an old scientist back at Black Mesa mess up names, or even the bottles of Testosterone gel he left on the bedside table of his dorm, but he never for sure knew that Gordon was trans.
Then the whole Resonance Cascade happened, and then that was one of the many, many things Barney didn't think about.
So when Gordon finally came back, he had to get used to it all over again.
