Summary
A small science experiment at a local science facility, what could possibly go wrong?
Well, for 18-year-old Violet Rose in late 2005, that question quickly found an answer. A failed experiment at her father's workplace, Black Mesa Research, spiraled out of control, unleashing aliens from another realm. After her father goes missing in the facility due to the Resonance Cascade, Violet encounters Gordon Freeman, another lone survivor of the incident. Together, they navigate the wreckage of the facility, facing danger armed with nothing but a crowbar.
Twenty years after the events of the Black Mesa incident, Violet Rose was invited to share her story about the Resonance Cascade. This is her story.

Summary
Hello everyone, this is my first attempt at creating a fanfic. Here, I decided to do a re-telling of Half-Life 1, one of my favorite video games. However, rather than it being a mere AU adaptation of the original game's story, I thought it'd be a neat idea to incorporate several other franchises I love. Another thing I included is a multi-character perspective, with each chapter being presented through the lens of one of four characters. I also decided to feature some cut content seen in Half-Life's early concepts and alpha builds, mostly because there's a lot of stuff from there that I wish was in the retail game. As this is the first major fanfiction I'm writing, feel free to give feedback or address some narrative inconsistencies and flaws. The fanfiction is not finished yet, and the release for each chapter is undecided as of now. Thank you for reading and have a very safe and productive day.

It has been forty-eight hours since the Resonance Cascade.
The Black Mesa Research Facility is scarred beyond recognition. What had once been the largest single scientific institution in the world has been turned into a battleground, where humanity is fighting against both itself and the invaders from another world. The facility's staff have been nearly wiped out by their own military, which itself has been forced by the alien threat to withdraw, while a secretive special forces unit struggles in vain to cover up their failures.
Desperate to stop the invasion, the surviving Black Mesa staff make frantic plans to hold off their attackers long enough for one of their number to take the fight to the enemy. But the addition of a stranded Marine, a shadowy bureaucrat, a further intrusion, and an atomic warhead continue to add new developments to the ongoing crisis.
As chaos takes hold across the world, strange and unaccustomed alliances are formed on both sides of the dimensional rift, as the diminishing number of survivors try desperately to save what they can of their existence as hell consumes the earth.

As an attempt to create peace between Earth and Borderworld Xen, Gordon Freeman opens up a secret school in Black Mesa where both teenage humans and Xen creatures can learn together. Of course, no one in Black Mesa knows about this other than Gordon himself, so the school has to stay absolutely top secret. Who knows what could happen if even one of the students is spotted?
But of course, like any school, there's certainly no lack of drama! And it doesn't help that the Xenian students have all sorts of strange abilities, as well as the fact that not every student is actually FROM Xen or Earth.
Can Gordon keep the peace between all of his students, keep them a secret from the rest of Black Mesa, all while actually teaching them some things? Find out, in "Black Mesa Academy"!

For what felt like the fifteenth time today, Gordon enhanced his vision and shot through whatever it was that was dragging Dr. Coomer toward the ceiling. Dr. Coomer dropped to the ground with a crash and immediately sprinted off.
“Hurry up, Gordon!” he called back. “We don’t want to waste time!”
Gordon dialed his sight back down to normal with more effort than it usually took and jogged after Dr. Coomer, grumbling to himself under his breath. When he joined Black Mesa, he hadn’t signed up for the end of the world.
