One night, as winter wraps the world in silence—Kaiser decided to sneak in Ness’ room, maybe out of boredom, maybe out of curiosity. He then finds Ness asleep in his bed, curled up beneath the smooth, soft folds of that old hoodie of his—his face was calm, his breath even, Ness looked... peaceful. Like for once in his life, he was safe.
Kaiser stood in the doorway, quietly staring at Ness’ sleeping form, and that old hoodie of his being held by him, like it was important... he then took a step forward, his lips frowned, "Pathetic..." he muttered—yet there was no hint of bitterness in his voice.

He traced a circle on the snow, and a second, smaller one inside it. It would have been nice to dig out his old spellbook for the occasion, but Ness didn’t want to push his luck too much. Besides, though it had been years, he still remembered the runes and their significance. He inscribed them carefully in the gap between the concentric circles until he had filled the space with the same summoning spell he had attempted when he was a child.
Now, all he needed to do was visualise the magical creature he wanted to bring to him. He was spoiled for choice, really, when there was an abundance of magical creatures he wanted to meet. Any one of them would do, he really wasn’t picky.
All he could imagine was choppy blond and blue hair, red and black and blue tattoos, blue roses—
Oh, who was he kidding? Kaiser was about the only thing he could think about.

“Guys, we have a problem,” Isagi says seriously, banging his hands on the table and making eye contact with every single person sitting at the small table. “I’m sure you already know.”
Ness glances briefly at the rest of the table, who, much like him, have no clue what nonsense Isagi is about to spew. Well, the exception is Hiori, who nods grimly and declares, “I do.”
So he’s about to ask what it is that is so problematic for the team, but Isagi beats him to it.

“You know what? I’m sick of this shit,” Kaiser suddenly complains, dropping and kicking the soccer ball in frustration. It lands perfectly in the upper left hand corner of the goal, catching in the net and falling to the ground with a soft thud.
Ness thinks back to the call with his dad. The irritating, dismissive tone of his dad catalyzes his anger, and Ness can’t help but react.
“You know what? Me too,” he declares firmly. Kaiser raises an eyebrow at him. “Let’s run away.”

Summary
Trapped in the window seat, Ness was imprisoned with no escape. He kept his movements minimal, trying to take up as little space as possible, practically folding into himself like a prey animal hiding from a predator.
Do not disturb the Kaiser. Do not make any sudden movements. Do not even breathe weirdly, or else.
Kaiser was probably planning Ness’ death right now. But if he just closed his eyes calmly, then maybe Kaiser might leave him alone. Maybe if he pretends to be asleep, he can trick Kaiser into thinking he’s dead already and so he won’t bother with him.
[ Ness had the misfortune of having to sit in the window seat... next to a fuming Kaiser on the plane back to Germany after the NEL finished. Ness has never been more scared in his life. ]
