Summary
Jaskier knows that he's being hunted. He knows, eventually, he will be captured. He knows too much about Geralt-- about Witchers in general-- to get caught without proper preparation. So he sets out, looking for Witchers to entrust with the things he values most. The things he can't let Nilfgaard get their hands on.

Summary
Geralt barely had time to throw up Quen.
The Sign flared, a dull gold shimmer, before the creature struck. The impact threw him back, the shield cracking like ice. Steel rang on talon. Feathers and fur filled his vision. The beast shrieked, a sound that clawed the air apart.
Jaskier’s shout was lost in the roar.
Geralt rolled, came up on one knee, slashed low. The blade met hide and bit shallowly — not enough. The griffin reared, blood spattering the snow, wings beating with hurricane force. Geralt’s hood was torn away.
Another strike — a flash of claws — and pain like fire seared across his ribs. He stumbled back, breath torn from him. Quen guttered and failed.

Geralt gets badly injured by a Griffin about 4 days away from Kaer Morhen, and Jaskier has to bring him to Kaer Morhen by himself

And despite his usual politeness around other people, he had no qualms about pointing out the differences between the two of you, much to your dismay. That is until the encounter with the amulet.

After the moutain Jaskier finds himself stumbling through the start of a planned year long bender in which he doesn't care weather or not he makes it out the otherside. A kind elf running a tavern in oxenfurt helps him get back on his feet, shaky as they are and from there Jaskier becomes the Sandpiper.
What he doesn't know is that this line of work will lead him directly into the hands of the man he was just starting to get over. Geralt of course makes everything worse, leaving Jaskier alone to pick up the peices until a very handsome witcher (Eskel) finds him and decides that Jaskier is the most important thing in the world, that it would be a privalige to help him get back up again.
or Jaskier tries to recover from the moutain but the world seems determined to show him that he should only ever feel heartbreak until Eskel turns out to be the only constant in his life.

Please allow me to withdraw my prayer, no one needs to die,” Jaskier says shakily, and even though there is fear in the bard’s heart for his own life, largely there is regret and horror that he asked for Valdo’s death.
The demigod sighs softly, going down to one knee in front of the mortal, and very gently tilting Jaskier’s face to look up at him with a gloved finger under the bard’s chin. The witcher tries to make his stern countenance a gentler one and offers the man a small but sad smile as he murmurs in his gravelly baritone, “That’s not how this works, Jaskier. I can…set aside your request, as it were, but it doesn’t just go away. A prayer made must be answered.”

A year out of the marines and Lambert still feels at odds with the world. Connections don't come easy and he spends most of his days alone or at work, even doing his best to avoid his family. After everything that he had seen and the people he had known, coming back to the slow pace of civilian life seems wrong.
Alone in the world, reeling from the aftermath of his family issues, Jaskier decided to pursue a masters degree after all these years. It will keep him busy and, most importantly, take him far away from Lettenhove. It's a fresh start away from all the people who looked at him with disgust and distain when they should have looked at him with love.
The two are connected through the mutual need of cheap rent and a relationship with one Geralt De Rivia. As his slightly annoying brother, Lambert is first in Geralt's thoughts when Jaskier, an old friend from college, offhandedly mentions needing accommodations near Oxenfurt University. The pair make a begrudging (on Lambert's end) deal to room together, which may be exactly what the pair needs.
