Valentina had promised to let you get all that information out of your head that you’d no longer be confined within your own head, your own darkness, but nothing stays well forever. You know this.
Despite knowing, it doesn’t make you prepared to meet Bob, or Yelena or any of them, and it’s strange to have hope bloom within your chest. Hopefully you’ll all make it out of this. Hopefully the hope can grow into something more and not lie rotting in the ash.

Of all the ways a reunion could go, this one could easily escalate to the worst.
“You know me, Bucky.” John said, perhaps hoping that Bucky really still knew him, still remembered… wishing they had more time to actually get to know each other.
“Yeah, I know you, John.”
It smelled bad there. Really, by Bucky’s tone and expression, he seemed about ready to throw a shovelful of dirt on John’s still-living body and wait for it to rot slowly.
“And you made your choices…” Bucky wasn’t talking about public choices, not with that lost and almost wounded look. With that almost-too-calm tone, but with a cracked edge that hit John’s ears like a gunshot very close.
Bucky needed to clarify — this couldn’t be about them. Not with so much at stake, not with a mission in play, not with eyes watching every word said, and every word left unsaid.
