the young avengers can only watch and sigh as they manage to deal with threats more effectively than two entire teams of properly-funded, fully adult avengers. maybe the world really, really needs the young avengers. like, desperately. please, the avengers(squared) are going to kill eachother before doing literally anything of help.

This is the fic for everyone who watched Thunderbolts and thought #notmyBucky. This is a redo of Secret Invasion, a story about assembling the *actual* Avengers, and a chance to give Sam the love and appreciation he deserves from the people around him. When I tagged this as "extremely Thunderbolts negative" I very much meant it, so please bear that in mind when reading!

Bucky gave the couch one final inspection.
His softest hoodie was folded on the armrest. Medicine was laid out on the coffee table, along with a fresh box of tissues and a small wastebasket. He’d already smoothed out the blankets and fluffed the pillows three times each, and if he smoothed them any more, the grooves in his vibranium hand would just undo his previous work.
Two days ago, Sam had off-handedly mentioned a sore throat over the phone. He’d sounded exhausted, but the fatigue and hoarseness could easily be explained away by a combination of shouting and running and flying and punching and shouting some more. Bucky didn’t buy it.
One day ago, Sam had messaged Bucky to warn him that he’d definitely caught Cass and AJ’s cold. Bucky wasn’t sure why Sam had bothered with a warning, considering that the super soldier serum granted the former with near-complete immunity to illnesses. Nevertheless, he appreciated the heads-up.
Today, Sam was finally returning.-
Sam comes home from a days-long mission with a bad cold. They unwind together. Bucky loves and loves and loves through his actions.
