Refugee and student Sable is trying to keep what's left of his family out of poverty, and on the free Kiati Isle, but knows there is more to life than working (and after an incident is forced to find a new means of income). Mine Laborer Rūva is tired of being mistreated, by her family, by her boss, and by the system. She longs to find herself and return to her ancestral lands where she might find her real family or at least a real home. But distance isn't her only obstacle, nor the greatest.
This is a fantasy-steampunk world (most of the 'steam'-powered things are powered by magic but it has a similar role in the world as steam engines in a way, it's hard to explain), where shit is awful but there's just enough good in the world and in the people in it to keep fighting for a better one, while also being a good person yourself. Also some cowboy-esque elements because gay cowboys are amazing.
This is kinda shitty (probably) but I am trying to actually put some writing out there and also improve my own skills.
