迪迪埃培育的玫瑰终于在次年初夏绽放。那是一种前所未有的颜色：花瓣主体是极为鲜艳、饱满的红色，犹如吉尔斯当年赛车头盔上最亮眼的红色涂装；而花瓣边缘，却有一圈细腻柔和的象牙白，仿佛不经意间溅上的赛车服颜色，又像是阳光为这炽热红色勾勒出的温柔光晕。它们开得恣意，不那么规整，却充满了蓬勃的生命力，在阳光下散发着一种独特的气息。
迪迪埃最终将它们命名为“Gilles”。
当Gilles第一次看到这些玫瑰时，他正赤着脚从海边散步回来，裤腿卷到膝盖，手里拎着两条试图逃跑的鱼，有些狼狈，但他笑得很开心。
他站在花园边，看着那片怒放的、以自己名字命名的红白花朵，愣住了。阳光透过花瓣，几乎有些刺眼。他的脸颊慢慢泛起红晕，一直蔓延到耳根。
“这太……肉麻了，迪迪。”他嘟囔着，把那两条鱼扔进水桶，发出哗啦的声响，试图掩饰自己的窘迫。但他没有移开目光，那双深褐色的眼睛久久地凝视着那些花朵，里面闪烁着复杂的光——有惊讶，有难为情，还有一种深藏的、被如此郑重珍视的触动。
迪迪埃正在给另一株玫瑰浇水，闻言抬起头，水壶悬在半空。他的手上沾着泥土，衬衫袖子挽起，金发被海风吹得有些凌乱，几缕贴在汗湿的额角。他看着Gilles脸上那副混合着嫌弃与感动的别扭表情，忍不住笑了起来。不是那种完美的、克制的贵族式微笑，而是真正开怀的、眼角泛起细纹的笑容。
“它们很适合你，”迪迪埃说，声音里带着劳作后的轻微沙哑和暖意，“有颜色，有生命，还有点……扎手。”
Gilles瞪了他一眼，但嘴角却不受控制地向上弯起。他最终什么也没说，只是走到迪迪埃身边，接过他手里的水壶，笨拙地继续给其他花浇水，动作有些粗鲁，但很认真。

The ripple of anger in the air at Will's outburst sent a thrill through Mike, and he gulped as he tried to stomach Will's anger, the way his eyebrows drew together and his eyes welled up. Instead of shying away, he remained where he was, unflinching as he prepared himself for what he was about to say.
"I never said you weren't insane," Mike decided, resisting the urge to smile but failing miserably. "I think you're mad. Completely bonkers and insane." He took Will's face in both hands then, holding his eye contact like his life depended on it. "But you're not at all evil like he is. You're just Will Byers who can do badass shit and help us kill this bastard."
After the events of the military base, Mike guards Will at the radio station and tries and fails to keep a nosey Robin Buckley away. A conversation follows when Will finally wakes up.
