Summary
During what should have been a secret trip through the Valley of the Fallen Kings, the Knights of the Round table are ambushed, leading to separation of the King and his manservant.
In the days following, Merlin finds himself at the mercy of a known warlord, and ally of Morgana, Helios as a the newest member of his harem. He learns quickly that the warlord is as cruel as his ally, and just as ambitious. Isolated from everything, and everyone, he holds dear, the young warlock must try to find a way to escape his captors, without losing himself in the process.
*Takes place during "Servant of Two Masters", but it is still not completely cannon-compliant. Some events will have been moved around because damnit I said so. I love the friendship between Lancelot and Merlin to let him be dead.*

It all started with one question, a seemingly inconsequential question. Merlin finds himself wondering what Arthur meant, and why Arthur would ever ask such a thing. It's not until weeks later when Merlin lets down his guards, does he learn Arthur's motives. And not until weeks after that does Merlin's answer change for good.
