    Grian had been running for what felt like hours, gliding through the deep void in an attempt to escape the Watchers.
    After finally finding a server to hide in he quickly realises that it was, in fact, not abandoned as he had assumed.

    When Xisuma went to check the new Hermitcraft Server he saw an intruder hack into it - quite literally.
    Though it quickly turns out that the intruder was more a fugitive, running away from the very monsters the admin hated with his entire being.

    Walking a thin line between truth and lie Grian tries his best to cling to the new safe haven to heal up and hide from his captors, making more connections than he had preferred.
    Sadly the Watchers had their own plans with their little disobedient experiment.

    “Excuse me!? I am perfectly average-sized for a—” Xelqua stopped.

    “...For a what?”

    “...For a,” The Watcher hunched into itself and checked over its shoulder. Which was completely unnecessary, considering Watchers can always see in all directions, “...Player.”

    The last word was whispered so quietly that Xander had to strain to hear it, and even then he questioned if he’d heard it right.

    “You’re a Player?” Xander asked incredulously, part insulted that it would try to fool him and part horrified that that was a possibility in the first place.

    “Hey, guys,” said Scott, “Have you heard they’re broadcasting the Council Meeting on a new law?”

    Council Meetings were an excellent concept. They would decide on new laws, often interviewing relevant people (or even entire servers) to get testimonies from them. Then, they would decide if new laws were necessary.

    Sometimes, the interviews could lead to court cases, if something illegal was suspected of the interviewees. The whole meetings were often broadcasted to every server, so anyone interested could hear them live.

    “That sounds interesting- what are they discussing?” asked Joe (Hills, not the pirate one).

    There was shuffling as people started heading to the movie room, and Scott started setting up the livestream.

    “Um, it’s on if there should be laws concerning ethical world ending,” Scott read from his communicator.

    After years of torture and pain, Grian finally escapes the clutches of the Watchers. He crash lands on a strange server, injured and panicked. But the players are hunting him, and he’s too weak to fight back. He resigns himself to a life of running and hiding.

    Scar is a little mesmerized by the stranger that had forced its way onto Hermitcraft. Everyone seems convinced it’s hostile, but the few interactions Scar’s had with it seem to say otherwise. Maybe it just needs a friend?

    OR these two traumatized idiots slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) fall in love while trying to recover from their messy pasts. But pasts aren’t something you can just run away from; especially in their cases.

    Martyn’s eyes narrow just slightly, his gaze flickering to the Secret Keeper and then back. “Yeah, I’ve heard ‘em. We all have, far as I can tell.”

    Scar nods and swallows, pasting on a shaky grin. “I hear them all the time.”

    Summary

    That BAMF Grian tag is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, so if an absurdly cracked protag is not your vibe, this probably isn't your jam. If that is your kind of protag, then welcome to the Kept Bird AU! What you need to know for this series is that Scar is an Emperor, and Grian is his concubine/plaything // head strategist // assassin. At court Grian is the head-empty sex toy that's just sitting pretty at Scar's feet (brain sharp and cataloging all the people that petition his emperor), in private he's Scar's lover and his chief strategist (nobody besides Scar ever sees the imperial chief strategist - wonder why), and at night he's known as the Black Falcon for how silently and precisely he strikes (all at Scar's whim of course).

    It is pure coincidence that the Emperor walks down the corridor they're sneaking through and something tugs at Grian's mind. For a moment something seems wrong before his mind sinks back beneath the clear waters of obedience.

    or: deeply entrenched in his brain exists a command that will make Grian obey without question; an artifact from his training with the Watchers that comes back to haunt him

    None of the Hermits were excited for this exchange program, in honesty it sounded stupid to force them out of their well comforted school and home. Scar's friends weren't exactly happy he was the one picked for their social experiment either.

    It ended up leading to a rabbit hole of a missing person's case, a teacher's suspicious death, ghosts, and a boy who adamantly refuses to where his uniform.

    Scar didn't expect to uncover a cold case when he changed schools.

    Or: A combination of the YHS lore where the hermits are able to intervene and help Grian.
