“You’re full of surprises.” She said.
Jacks chuckled nervously, fiddling with the buttons on his shirt to avoid eye contact. “Is that a good thing?”
“I think so,” Evangeline replied with a hum. She wanted to keep him on his toes, but truthfully, this whole new Jacks she was discovering was the best surprise she’d had in a while. She’d been attracted to Jacks initially, but his personality had always confused her. This was the real Jacks, lying beside her, soft and warm and timid.
Jacks takes Evangeline on a surprise date, a chance to learn more about each other and discover there's more than meets the eye.

He hears the scrape of metal as Clary unsheathes her seraph sword up ahead and the low rumble of a werewolf’s growl. Eyes flash green in the darkness.
His heartbeat is thick in his ears, thudding with anticipation. He’s ready to fight and ready to win — who are these people, coming into his city and killing his friends?

Magnus gives a little shake of his head, and sort of shrugs, and says, “— all I could think about was you. I know it’s not your senior year, and, even if it was we wouldn’t be going together — which is fine, obviously. But I’ve been watching everyone else ask people to be their prom dates and the only person I want to go to prom with is you, Alexander.”
