When magic itself had gone absolutely haywire, and former champions(?) of magic had been appearing and disappearing on the watch tower, they hadn't expected this also to be how to learned about the enigmatic Captain Marvels past and the just how deep the cost a miracle is. Magic always has a price.

Summary
When (which, for some reason, the JLD won't answer) magic itself had gone absolutely haywire, and former champions of magic had been appearing and disappearing on the watch tower. (This was a major event later referred to in reports as The Halo Chronicles.) Every available member turned up to try to weasel more information about what it meant to be a champion of magic. They just hadn't expected this also to be a way to find out about Marvel himself.

Danny just wanted a grilled cheese. That was it. He did not want to accidentally kill the Joker. He did not want to be on Batman’s radar. And he definitely did not want Red Hood to kiss him, cry on him, and then propose all within the span of ten minutes.
But here he is. In Gotham. Standing over Joker’s corpse. With a very emotionally compromised vigilante looking at him like he just hung the damn stars.
Danny is so, so tired.

One fry—a particular fry, taller than the others, with a bent, crispy edge like a villainous mustache—stepped forward.
The leader.
It pointed a greasy limb at the Joker and screeched:
“IMPOSTER.”
Danny watched, horrified, as the Jokerized fries rushed the booth like a swarm of angry, ketchup-covered piranhas.
The Joker barely had time to say, “What the f—” before he was tackled under a wave of his own deep-fried doppelgängers.

Beloved Son, Lost Too Soon.
“So, what’s your name?” Jason finally asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He wasn’t exactly the type to offer comfort, but he figured it would help to know more about the guy.
The guy hesitated for a second before answering, “Danny. Danny Fenton.” He seemed to sag slightly with relief at having given his name. “You?”
Jason paused, then let out a dry laugh. “Jason. Jason Todd” He didn’t bother hiding the bitterness that crept into his voice. “Beloved son” he muttered under his breath, reading the words on the stone again. “Lost too soon. "
Or,
Jason finds himself facing his own grave, only to be unexpectedly joined by a young man crying over it.

“Seriously?” Danny deadpanned, craning his neck to get a better look at the machinery. “That’s what you’re going with?”
The villain, a mid-tier inventor type with a shiny metal exosuit and an ego to match, stopped mid-monologue. “Excuse me?”
Danny sighed, shifting uncomfortably in his bindings. “The containment field is way too unstable. I can feel the interference from here. And the capacitor over there? It’s misaligned. If you actually fired that thing, it’d blow up in your face. Assuming you could even get it to power up, which you can’t, because your wiring’s a mess. The targeting system? It’s way off. I bet you couldn’t hit me if I was standing still. And the coolant system—wait, do you have a coolant system? Because that thing’s about five seconds from overheating.”
Or,
I fucking died trying to make the engineering make sense.
