The man - his owner? Or was that Tommy? - walked away. T-U330 stayed by Tommy. He let his eyes close. He hadn't been in use for very long, but what he had learned was important, so he let himself drift as his memories encoded themselves into storage.
(When he was older he liked to imagine that his first moment was different. That it was when the box flaps were lifted, when he was carried out of the box with two strong but gentle hands. That he felt safe and cared for.
He knew better than to believe that.
