Summary
After an altercation with his dad, Steve hides away in the pantry in his kitchen and calls for help on the walkie-talkie. Luckily, Eddie is awake and comes to the rescue, stealing Steve away to stay at the Munsons’ until it’s safe for Steve to go back. Steve hates when either of his parents come home to visit, especially when it’s his dad. It feels ridiculous to say but Steve thinks he’d rather face another Demogorgon.
A Demogorgon will smell blood in the water and kill on sight, but Mr. Harrington has a habit of dragging it out and making sure his prey knows they’re bleeding. The monsters under the bed are nothing compared to the monsters down the hall, Steve’s an expert. He’s known for a long time now how messed up it all is, he knows he needs out, needs help, but it feels impossibly hard. It’s normal for him and he’s dealt with it this long, he just needs to tough it out until he can afford his own place.
It doesn’t occur to Steve that he has a plethora of people willing to fight monsters at his side, whether the monsters are from the Upside Down or his own home. With the help of his monster hunting crew, Steve escapes his parents and learns what love is really supposed to be.

Set post S3. He and El got took to the lab by Brenner where El got her powers back and Steve enhanced his. They escaped by Steve killing Brenner (Steve shot himself in the head and transferred it over to Brenner) El took out soldiers in grief. Steve alives himself, they go back to Hawkins to stop Hop + the gang going after Vecna and work out a plan that works.

He's King Steve, Steve “the Hair” Harrington. He's an all-American boy growing up in the heartland. And he's spent years working very hard to keep it that way, because the truth is the last thing he is, is normal.
No, Steve Harrington has a dark past he's desperate to escape, however that gets much harder when Will Byers goes missing and Steve just can’t shake the feeling that something is very wrong in Hawkins, something that's pointing straight to his past. But everything will be fine, right? All he has to do is pretend everything is normal.

Summary
Steve wonders how it would be to have a family, he remembers those missions where he had to play the role of someone's kid, and as fucked up as it sounds those were his fondest memories; Now he is stuck with a family that is not really his, a body of a kid burried in the backyard and a role he forced himself to play, or at least that was until a new family was introduced to him in a form of interdimensional monsters, loud children and a pair of weird adults (parents).
Basically a fic of Steve being Seven and going through all the seasons with all the implications of him being a lab kid and powers that are meant to hurt and destroy and obviously trying to hide it.

“I just – I – if we don’t find her. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t've left her and Tommy out there alone.”
“Don’t,” says Hopper simply. “Don’t blame yourself. It doesn’t fix a damn thing.”Tuesday, November 8. It's ten o'clock on a school night, and Carol Perkins has vanished from the backyard of Steve Harrington's house.
Not quite a fix-it (maybe a make-it-worse, depending on where I take it), but an alternate universe in which Carol is attacked by the Demogorgon rather than Barb. Be warned - there is a lot of gore, trauma, canon-typical violence, mental health issues, et cetera. I tried to tag everything, and I'll keep updating the tags as I go along, so let me know if I missed something!
The title from the Crowded House song of the same name. Technically, it was released in 1987, four years after this story is set, but... Whatever. It's a good song.
