Summary
Percy is four years old the first time his dreams lead him to his many-great-grandmother’s chambers- a woman long dead yet somehow still seated in front of him, fingers grasping at her hair tightly as she wails about a wooden horse on the beach while her servants look on in pity. He feels the weight of something ancient and heavy settle on his shoulders in that moment.
He's in his 1st grade classroom while his teacher screams at him for making up lies about gods and monsters and scaring the other children. He's eight when his mother's own visions become too much for her to bear.
He's at Yancy when Grover Underwood finally finds him and says "I believe you" for the first time. And as Percy begins to feel lighter, that ancient weight that has followed him his whole life slowly dissipating, he realizes that being believed can be just as horrifying as being thought mad.
