  1. Summary

“How does it end for them?”

“If things remain unchanged, then in sorrow.” Vanimórë gave a bleak smile. “How else could it end, between an Elf and a mortal woman?”

“Indeed.” Elgalad brushed the surface of the portal. It hissed faintly, and the air tasted of salt and metal and ice. Maglor and Claire and their pretty town vanished into darkness. “If things remain unchanged.”

    *

A crossover between Spiced Wine's Dark Prince AU, and Narya's series 'The Wanderer.'

In the Portal in the Timeless Halls, Vanimórë sees a vision of a different Earth - one where the Fëanorions were not reborn, and there was no apotheosis by the shores of the sea. Maglor has wandered alone for thousands of years, but in twenty-first century Scotland, he meets a young woman named Claire James. Vanimórë watches their lives, and makes a decision that will change the future of their world...

  3. Summary

Vanimórë, son of Sauron, was born in the shadows of Tol-in-Gaurhoth. A plaything, a slave, a warrior, he was bound to his father's mind, and tempered as a weapon of the Dark over thousands of years.

They forged better than they knew.

Trained in the pits of Angband, Vanimórë could command armies, kill without conscience, and he could hate those he served. But he would not break for them. The blood of the Eldar ran strong in him. His path was inextricably linked to some of the most famed and tragic of the Elves, and lead to a destiny he could never have imagined.

    Summary

He tries to avoid his own people. There are other elf-spirits here too, the hosts of his father still, and the host of each doomed son, but they are faint, indistinct things, not quite close enough to touch. He does not want to see them, and shifts away at each approach, and they fade further from his view, blending into the grey walls of Mandos, hazy echoes of what had been and what might be. He would be the same to them, he has gathered, and thought better of it; he does not want to exist, to them. He does not want to exist, at all. His heart is gone, and his mind has gone with it, all frozen over by the gnashing, vicious ice, the deadened sky, his dead son. Dead. One, one, likely all. They are all dead. That is why they are here.

And then Fingon appears, bleeding and blazing and broken, the fire melting away the ice coating his heart and unlatching each lock, and Fingolfin is a father again.

    Summary

Fëanáro writhes in the grips of crisis; a failing marriage, Melkor's stalking, dark dreams, and Ñolofinwë's rising star all drive him to bitterness and alienation.

Anonymous during an indulgent once-a-year tradition, the Hiding of the Face, as well as mildly intoxicated, he pursues a brazen stranger who dares mockingly masquerade as a 'Spirit of Fire'. A game of cat and mouse escalates to an illicit, slightly punitive tryst, where neither party realises who the other is until they are touching far more intimately than half-brothers should.

    Horror, guilt and desire ensue.

    Summary

So Fëanáro does not die cursing under the stars.
It softens his temper a little, binds him tighter to his sons. Still, he remains himself - self-aggrandising, wilful and thorned.

So Ñolofinwë does not lose his youngest in the battle of Lammoth, and receives weregild.
Begrudgingly, for the good of all, he will co-operate. Yet, though a good man, he is no less proud and ambitious.

Can they find a healthy way to co-exist? Perhaps not. They are a little too awful to one another. Still, they will try.

Meanwhile, Elu Thingol's concerns are not unjustified, Artanis and Celeborn court, Findaráto is more than meets the eye, and Lúthien labours to make her own future possible. Can a somewhat better united Beleriand stand against Morgoth?

    --
[Yes, there is half-sibling incest, beware! But, at least in my interpretation, they barely interacted in youth, as Fëanor was mostly out of Tirion by the time Fingolfin toddled, so their social and emotional dynamic does not really have familial tones.]

    Summary

“I want to know you,” Celebrimbor said. “You and all that there is to you.”
Beneath his hands, he felt Annatar tense, his skin growing colder as if every part of him, including his blood, wanted to withdraw from Celebrimbor’s touch.
“You don’t know what you are asking for,” Annatar said quietly.
“Perhaps not,” Celebrimbor replied. “And yet this is what I want. You have offered me so much over these years: unnumbered gifts that you gave freely, that I did not even need to ask for. So let this be the first, the last, and the only thing I ask for myself.”
Let me in. Let me know you. Show me who you were, before you came to me. Let me know all that is ancient and primordial, terrifying and incomprehensible about you. Show me the god beneath the face of the man. Permit me to know you as you truly are.

On the eve of the creation of the Great Rings, Celebrimbor makes a dangerous request and history changes forever.
