Summary
More noticeable was the instrument. She sat perched on the edge of a wooden stool, leaning into a cello. Her eyes were closed, her lips in a firm pressed line, focused on the music she was making. She swayed slightly, feeling the movement of the piece in her being. Her fingers pressed into the fingerboard, the vibrato evident in how she pulled herself from the instrument and back in. The bow glided over the strings with such confidence, never fearful of a screech or catch. I couldn’t help but watch.
She was magnificent.

She does ask Chris, and he thinks it’s a good idea—says as much, on the phone, and doesn’t say much else.
“Buck will probably be hovering,” is what Chris does volunteer.
It still surprises her when the man who opens the door is not Eddie. It’s—Captain America, is the thing that actually comes to mind—a man close to a foot taller than she is, if not more than that, with blond curls and broad shoulders, and he’s got a question in his very blue eyes that’s probably less friendly than the one he actually asks her.
“Uh,” he says. “Can I help you?”

Eddie is secretly ashamed of most things.
Like dancing alone in the warm sunlit kitchen and the kid-safe makeup Sophia once messily spread on his face. Like knowing there's something he's missing but never truly had in the first place. Like how he walks and talks and always lets his parents down and isn't the best in school but just alright. Like how he doesn't believe in God but thinks he probably should since that's what everyone else does.
Eddie is so ashamed of himself.
Or, Eddie learns how to not be.

Summary
The thing is, Eddie thinks that Buck might actually, really love him back… maybe? Okay, so he isn’t 100% sure but sometimes, when Buck looks at him Eddie feels loved. Like Buck is actually capable of making his love a solid thing, with weight and density and he can place it around Eddie’s shoulders like a cloak of Evan Buckley’s devotion and Eddie feels warm and at peace.
The problem with being in love with your best friend (who may love you back) who doesn’t know that you’re even an option is that it means you have to make yourself an option and the only way Eddie can be an option is by telling said best friend he is an option and The Buckley-Han New Year’s Eve party probably isn’t the time for The Big Gay Reveal™, queue jazz hands and confetti.
Or It’s New Year’s Eve and Eddie accidentally comes out to all of his friends throughout the night.
