Summary
He knew, somehow, that it’s been Eddie this entire time. Buck would only trust one person to touch him like that, and it’s Eddie. His body is frozen, but he wouldn’t move anyway. Eddie holds the scalpel, the blade hovering over Buck’s skin, and he pauses. The knife stills, waiting, as he asks, “Are you ready?”
Buck prefers when he had normal nightmares, about being trapped under a truck or drowning or losing the people he loved, rather than undergoing surgery in his dreams.

Summary
They’re fighting over the last beer—Eddie’s by right of he only had two to Buck’s three, Buck’s argument that he needs more than Eddie because he has a higher tolerance—when Eddie realizes he’s got Buck in a shoulder hold. It doesn’t take much to bring Buck down, twisting forward and blocking Buck’s leg with his own foot, and Buck tumbles onto the floor, landing on his back with a low groan. Eddie meant for it to be a soft landing but obviously failed, because Buck seems a little stunned, laid flat on his back. It doesn’t deter Eddie from stepping past Buck’s prone body to grab the beer, popping the cap off by using the edge of the island.

Summary
“Seriously, the second I get back, you’re the one running off?” Eddie asks as he steps up to Buck. Their shoulders bumps together and Buck does his best not to flinch, from the words or the sudden contact. He’s unused to having Eddie around. The months of distance seems to have overwritten the years of familiarity. “You couldn’t have given me a settling in period?”
Buck should joke back. That’s what he does, matched Eddie, because the two of them have been in sync for years. He can’t though, because Buck has been knocked off the track, spiraling out of Eddie’s gravitational pull, and he’s not sure how to get back on. If he even wants to get back on.
Buck transfers out of the 118, gets a new apartment, and tries to pretend he isn't in love with his best friend.

Summary
“I don’t know how to talk about it,” Buck says, days later, in the quiet of the bedroom.
Eddie and Christopher have stuck around Los Angeles. Buck hasn’t asked, and Eddie hasn’t said anything, and Buck knows better than getting his hopes up. He hopes, regardless. Christopher has been sleeping on the couch, and without another bed or air mattress, Eddie has been sleeping in Buck’s bed. With Buck.
It’s been—fine. Kinda sucks, actually, because Buck’s been breaking into these huge, heaving sobs every night for the past three weeks, curling up in the center of his king-sized bed and letting his tears soak into the pillows. He isn’t able to do that with Eddie here, has swallowed down the tears and only let them out in the shower, tucking all the ugly pieces of his grief away. He’s been dealing with it, and trying not to bother others with it, but apparently he’s failed that, too.
Buck is tired of drowning under the weight of his own grief. Eddie is desperate to get him to talk about it.

“Buck, I told you, there’s no rush. You being here for however long you need is not a problem.”

“Did you?” Eddie asks. “Hear me?”
Eddie comes back home. Buck runs away.

Summary
“What, even if I kill someone?” Eddie shoots back. It feels like he’s daring Buck — testing him, almost. Eddie can’t tell what he wants from this conversation, just that he wants.
“Even then,” Buck says, then adds, “Especially if it's your parents.”
“Buck,” Eddie laughs. His whole face feels flushed, impossibly hot. It’s hot in Texas, always, but he feels almost electric with it.
“Nah, Eddie, I’m being so serious right now, if you tell me you need to hide a body in El Paso, I’m there.” Buck’s laughing too, his head thrown back so the arch of his neck takes up most of Eddie’s screen. Eddie presses a thumb to the screen, where he could touch the dip at the base of Buck’s throat if they were together.
“Don’t be an idiot,” Eddie snorts. “I’m not going to ask you to hide a body, okay?”
Buck sighs. “I wish you would. We’d see each other again, at least.”

Bookmarker's Notes
El Paso’s a city surrounded by mountains. Out of the city, tucked underneath the shadow of the ranges, Eddie grew up in a house that had a small and vibrant garden that seemingly blossomed through the force of his mother’s will alone. Eddie would look at his mother’s plants, pruned meticulously and watered on a careful schedule, and think if they can make it here, so can I. // eddie in texas character studies you mean the world to me

Summary
Buck keeps him everywhere. He’s smuggling him into every inch left vacant, because like this, he doesn’t lose him, won’t lose him. Like this, he gets to keep Eddie forever, even if it’s just the pieces and the memories attached. The reminder of him will haunt him and this apartment like a ghost. Because Buck can’t trap him in his apartment and force him to stay, he’d never ask that, couldn’t ask that, but he’s going to damn well do his best to salvage it in some form. He’s kidnapping Eddie’s shadow, no matter how much it hurts, and there’s no choice about it.
Eddie announces he’s leaving. Buck, naturally, begins a slow descent to madness.
[ALT. summary: Buck has resolved to be the greatest friend ever. He’s handling this move so well. And not at all being abnormal about Eddie’s house. Or Eddie’s belongings. Or, well. Eddie.]

a truly insane, truly gripping fic where buck is insane about eddie and it never gets to be too much. (he could've been worse!) the prose is absolutely incredibly and i audibly reacted to so many scenes. i am incredibly charmed by this buck buckley. i wanted this fic to continue for forever and ever but alas, hit the intermission. Eddie initially tried to hide it too—two of his closest people, walking on eggshells around him, because Buck is—was—a total fucking mess. But he isn’t anymore! He’s not. Buck doesn’t even want to know the real reason why Eddie had tried to keep it from him at first, almost fearing the answer. It’s behind them, anyway. If there are any decisions to be made, Buck wants to be involved. He wants to be enthusiastically involved, even. He’s going to be involved. This isn’t a choice. He will be.

Summary
Adriana doesn’t tell their parents that she’s going to LA. She doesn’t tell Eddie, either—or ask, for that matter.
She does ask Chris, and he thinks it’s a good idea—says as much, on the phone, and doesn’t say much else.
“Buck will probably be hovering,” is what Chris does volunteer.
It still surprises her when the man who opens the door is not Eddie. It’s—Captain America, is the thing that actually comes to mind—a man close to a foot taller than she is, if not more than that, with blond curls and broad shoulders, and he’s got a question in his very blue eyes that’s probably less friendly than the one he actually asks her.
“Uh,” he says. “Can I help you?”

Bookmarker's Notes
i love this fic so much, everyone should read it. a clear examination of the diaz siblings, and sibling relationships in general. adriana is a clear and wonderful narrator, watching buddie from the sidelines while being able to articulate why, exactly, they work so well together. (even when they fight, the work well.) it is some of the best writing in this fandom and there is incredible poetic imagery that's a throughline until the very end. it's wonderful. Adriana stands to follow him, walking all the way up to Buck and wrapping her arms around him before she can second guess her welcome. He’s hugging her back almost immediately. She’s struck, not for the first time, by how quickly Buck has become familiar to her—easy to spend time with, easy to reach for. For seven years, he has been her family’s family, someone from whom she had only a single degree of separation.
