“Excuse me, are you Buck?” A tentative voice calls out from his left, cutting off whatever it is that Bobby had just been about to say. He turns to see a woman walking over, smiling at him like she’s greeting an old friend.
“I’m.. uh, yes?” He replies, ears still ringing with the words exhausting and suck it up and bail me out of jail.
Her answering grin is delighted and Buck can’t remember the last time someone was so happy to see him.

Summary
Buck banged against the sealed door until his hands bled and his throat was raw from screaming. “M-Maddie, I can’t get them! I need to save them!” His voice cracked under the weight of his love for them. The love for his family.
“You cannot grieve the living by wishing yourself dead, Evan.” Maddie’s voice answered, sounding so close. She was in there too. Everyone he cared about, just out of reach. Their eyes staring at him as blood ran down their faces— Chris, Jee-Yun, Harry, May, Denny, and Mara. He was losing them. He was alone and he couldn’t do anything to save them. He would always end this life alone despite sticking his teeth into everything he loved.

Summary

Then
Margaret and Philip Buckley did not want to raise children well into their forties. That's why they had Maddie and Daniel when they did. While they did plan to have Evan, in the moment, they didn't think of how it would mess up the rest of their life plans. So, when Maddie left for college, they decided sending Evan to the Army and Navy Academy in California would be for the best. Little did they know that this was one of the best things they could do for their youngest child, because not long into his second semester, he ran into Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.
Now
Buck did not think he would ever go back to the Navy. Not after that last disastrous mission. Not after he found a new team and family in LA. Not after he started to put down roots. But Buck never thought someone would plant a bomb on a fire truck. He never thought he would be at ground zero of a tsunami. He never thought he would have to fight for his job or that others would become bitter and hateful about him trying to get back to work.
So when he gets a call from his Pops that he's needed down at Top Gun. Well, it's not like he's doing much with the 118 now, and it's not like he could say no to the COMPACFLT anyway...

Buck waits patiently as the gears in Eddie’s brain start turning. His best friend looks up at the ceiling, mouthing words with no sounds escaping his lips.
“Buck, are you still there?” Megan asks after a moment.
“Yes.” Buck drags his eyes back to the phone as Eddie continues to mutter to himself. “Eddie is…he’s absorbing.”
“Eddie is confused,” he shouts suddenly, falling onto the couch next to Buck. “Dios. Are you seriously telling me that that kid is Buck’s kid?”
