Palkia goes silent and still in its antagonist’s grip. Dialga does not press the advantage and rid the world of its counterpart; an incomplete world and its incomplete spirit compels this choice, I am certain.
“You are so troubled by my habits?” I ask. My commanders squirm in the corners of my vision, an odd compromising of their positions. They never would have made such decisions atop Spear Pillar. “I apologize, then. I have made an error. You misunderstand our standing—you are nothing more than a tool to me.”

Summary
Lear is a prince without a nation after a series of poor decisions by his father. Now, he lives in the Coral Highlands; camping, cooking, and killing dragons in order to survive. Life is easy when all you need to worry for is food.
When N, a prince of another land, comes and pretends to join Lear’s father in his quest to conquer dragons, it’s obsession on first sight. Even worse, there’s something Lear knows about this stranger which no one has told him:
N can speak to dragons.
Lear doesn’t know how he knows that, but what he does know is that he’ll need N’s help if he ever wants to find his brother again.

I think now that Senshi and Chilchuck and Marcille probably would consider me a friend, after all we went through… but we still did it for Falin’s sake, in the end. The only people who ever want anything to do with me put up with me because they like Falin, and Falin likes me.”
The worst part was that Laios didn’t even look particularly upset. He simply took it as a given that these were things he couldn’t, and would never, be on the inside of.
“So I just don’t really understand,” Laios went on, “how it is that you would ever want to be my friend, when you’re not even hers?”

“It feels jarring, to sit and do nothing. I’m not used to this; there always seems to be something that I needed to sign every minute, or an event that needed me to open its ceremony for. Just an hour ago I was drowning in paperwork, but now that I’m released from it, it almost doesn’t feel right to use my free time to just sit and hang out, and… be.”
Even though the chatter around them carried on, everyone else blissfully oblivious of his woes, Lear’s world stopped anyway when the earnest curiosity in Cheren and Rosa’s faces melted into shock, and if he was reading the furrow in their eyebrows right, they were at a loss of words, too.
Or: on Pasio's anniversary, Lear finally attended a firework viewing from the Trainer Lodge. Just when he thought he had no place in a room where everyone was well-acquinted with each other, he just had to ruin it by admitting to Cheren and Rosa of how awful he was at relaxing.

Summary
On the Planet of his birth, Cloud had destroyed Sephiroth years ago. The reactors are long cold, the world is saved, and he and Tifa keep their little family in remembrance of the dead.
In this new dimension, it's like the apocalypse Cloud remembers was half-averted. Mako's still around, ShinRa's in business, and Tifa supposedly died years ago under Cloud's JENOVA-fueled rampage. The other problem? Everyone's alive, looking for answers, and this dimension is a little more different than it seems.
It's hard, taking out reactors while being hunted across the continent by the people who are apparently your soulmates. It's hard, and no one understands.

Attachments, the old Sephiroth had told him once, were just more strings he could use to twist Cloud’s psyche around as he pleased. Every relationship Cloud had ever had, or would ever have, meant danger. And Cloud was so very good at putting his friends in danger, wasn’t he?
It’s been over a decade since Cloud has heard his voice, but here, on the other side through space and time, he can’t help but wonder if the bastard had a point after all.
Then again, maybe not. Sephiroth was, as always, on his own fucking level.
