Chapter 6

Notes:

I'm back with part one of the epilogue chapters! I'm not sure when part two will be posted, but I hope to have it done soon :)

I was scrolling my ao3 stats (as one does when their dopamine is low) and wow, I can't believe that 175 of you have subscribed to my silly story. I never expected this to be as popular as it is (it's my #1 fic), considering that it's one of the first fics I wrote for the fandom and isn't what I would consider some of my best work, but I'm beyond grateful for all the lovely comments, kudos, and hits you've left on my story. Thank you so much for all the love you've shown to my fic. <3<3<3

Looking back a couple years after I originally wrote this chapter, I wasn't sure if it was still as good and funny as I thought when I first scribbled its lines in my notebook. Nonetheless, I hope you'll enjoy it! I accept concrit if you disagree. Special thanks to my Twinsie for her invaluable beta skills and advice <33

Chapter Text

Just before Christmas, Mr and Mrs Damian Wayne returned from parts abroad.

The press hadn’t discovered MDC and Damian’s relationship yet, since Damian had recently brought Fairy as his date to the gala and made it very clear that Fairy had a romantic soulmate; he and Fairy were just friends.

No one knew Fairy’s headquarters were in Gotham; “USA” was all she said, so it was a surprise to Dick when he walked into a recording studio to pick up Marinette and Damian for Christmas Eve at the Manor and found Fairy kissing someone–Icarus, he assumed.

Fairy’s eyes widened when she saw Dick, pulling away from her lover.

“What’s the matter, Angel?” The man’s hands wrapped around Fairy’s waist.

Dick’s jaw dropped open in shock. That wasn’t Icarus, that was Damian!

Fairy pushed past Dick to get to the bathroom. Dick stared at his little brother as he turned around, wiping lipstick off his cheek. His eyes also widened slightly, as he mouthed a curse, a panicked look flashing across his face.

They stared at each other in silence like Mac and Charlie from It’s Always Sunny, neither knowing what to do next.

“Uhhh….”

Marinette rushed in, breathless. “Hey, Dami, Dick! I have the bags for you guys to bring to Dick’s car. It’s such a hassle only having motorbikes, ma lune, we should look into getting a car. Be easier getting groceries, too. Sorry if I made you wait long, Dick. I got…held up with some stuff.”

“No, just got here,” said Dick automatically, taking multiple bags from her hands as she rambled, leading the way to the parking lot. His head whirled, trying its best to comprehend the events of the last few minutes.

Damian was kissing Fairy. Damian had a nickname for Fairy–he didn’t recall hearing Damian call Marinette anything except her first name, which was proof that Damian and Fairy were close. Marinette had a nickname for Damian–ma lune. They just got married! Damian wouldn’t cheat, even on a mission…what was happening!

For the first time ever, Dick’s car enjoyed a quiet ride to Wayne Manor.

After dinner, the family gathered around the fireplace in the living room. Even criminals generally took Christmastime off, so the entire family was there. They elected to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York for the first time–it had been banned when they were younger so they wouldn’t get any more ideas for their shenanigans than had already happened.

Dick’s heart twisted as he saw Marinette curl into Damian, laughing up at something he’d said.

Did he tell her now? After the holidays? Hope that it had just been a thank-you kiss of some sort? Fairy was French, that was a thing. No, it was definitely more than a ‘just friends’ kiss. How long had it been going on? Damian had met Fairy after Marinette, but worked with Fairy more than MDC. He even played Fairy’s love interest in the Searching for You MV! Wait, Fairy had a soulmate. Icarus should know, too, apparently he trusted Damian with his soulmate. He hadn’t thought she was that sort of person, but then again, most people didn’t think Brucie Wayne could be Batman, either; everything celebrities showed was an act. What to do, what to do…

Dick missed most of the movie, too busy agonizing.

Marinette and Damian spent most of the movie whispering about what to do about the situation Dick caught them in–the prank hadn’t meant to go this far. He was early for once and had caught the slip-up.

The next morning, after a lovely breakfast provided by Alfred and Marinette, the family congregated in the living room for present distribution. The family celebrated a joint Christmas/Hanukkah celebration, blending the two traditions for both sides of the family. A certain number of presents were removed from the Christmas pile for distribution over the week, and what remained were opened on Christmas morning.

Everyone received an MDC Original from Marinette, and everyone was thrilled.

After most of the excitement settled down, Dick turned to Marinette. “Can I talk to you for a moment?”

She nodded. “Sure.”

They entered the quiet library and Dick cleared his throat uncomfortably. “Uh, I really don’t want to do this, but I really like you and don’t want to-”

“I’m married, you know. To your brother.” Marinette raised her eyebrow, flashing her ring at him in amusement, hoping to lighten the mood.

‘No! Nonono, not like that! I see you as a friend and a little sister! But uh…yesterday, just before you came in…IsawDamiankissingFairyinthesoundbooth.”

“Could you repeat that?” she frowned.

“I saw Damian and Fairy kissing in the soundbooth. I couldn’t believe it, I never thought…Damian wouldn’t do that! But then I remembered all the ‘friend dates’ and the music video and-”

“You can stop rambling, Dick. I appreciate you telling me this. Can you ask Damian to meet me in our room?”

He nodded miserably. “I’m sorry.”

The Batfamily eyed Dick as he reentered the room, without Marinette, and whispered in Damian’s ear, who then left. The past two days he hadn’t been acting normally; instead of being excited to have everyone together, he had only looked distracted and dejected.

Dick flopped on the couch over Jason, stretching his legs over Steph and Cass.

“What’s the matter?” grumbled Jason, shoving Dick’s arm off his shoulder.

“UGH,” he groaned. “I feel awful.”

“Are you sick?”

“No, I just told Mari that I found Damian and Fairy smooching yesterday.”

“WHAT?!”

A little while later the couple emerged from their room. The family pretended that they didn’t know what Dick had revealed, but were shockingly bad at acting considering their entire double lives.

Strangely, Mari’s eyes weren’t red, they hadn’t heard yelling, and they appeared quite comfortable in each others’ presence.

Dick narrowed his eyes. What did you tell her?

At lunch, the couple sat by each other as usual. The family all exchanged side eyes but didn’t comment. Once it was over, Damian requested they stay seated for another moment.

“It’s obvious Grayson has shared with you all that he caught Fairy and I kissing yesterday. To that, I have nothing to say.”

The family looked disappointedly at him, then stared in surprise at the gold thread tying him to Marinette, standing by his side. “Marinette is also Fairy, and you’ve all met me as Icarus.”

“But…but you….what?!” Several Bats’ heads exploded.

“Angel and I are soulmates, romantic ones. She is also Bourgeois’s platonic-sister soulmate.”

“Demon Spawn has a soulmate?”

“So, he was kissing you yesterday?”

“Oui, I can’t believe you fell for me pulling a you.” Marinette stared at Dick. “I guess that’s how it works for you, leave as a civilian, return the next minute as a vigilante.”

The room went silent.

“Oh come on! Timbo, you’ll get your $50 in due time,” complained Jason, slapping Tim’s outstretched hand. Money exchanged hands as the other Bats divvied up their bets.

“You knew, then?” asked Bruce.

“Oh yes, since I met Robin after I bumped into ma lune the first time.”

“She sizes people up for a living, Father.”

“I think I’ll give you all a while to process this information before I tell you any more,” Mari decided.

“We figured you knew–it’s pretty hard to hide vigilantism from your girlfriend, nevermind your wife–but we had bets on when you’d let it slip that you knew,” explained Steph. “Thanks for winning me $100!”
